Don’t Answer The Beep

Waiting for a phone call yesterday to give me the test results for my Mom who is in the hospital, my family made me see that there is a reason I feel so confused at times, it’s not always just me, sometimes they do help my confusion along, the phone rings and I made the mistake of answering it rather than allowing Cindy to decipher the test results.

Me: Hello

Melinda (youngest sister): Jimmy, the Doctor came in and talked to all of us and we still don’t know anymore than we did before he came in.

Me: OK so what did he actually say

Melinda: Not anymore than he has already told us.

I am getting a beep about this time and figuring it may be my other Sister I ask Melinda to hold for just a minute, so I can answer it.

Me: Hello

Felicia: (Daughter of my other Sister) Hey Uncle Jimmy, what are you doing?

Me: Hey Felicia, I’m talking to Melinda

Felicia: Oh OK, I’ll just let you go then, and she can tell you.

I click back over and my Mom is now on the phone

Me: Hey Mom how are you feeling

Mom: not too bad but we still don’t know anything.

Me: I was just talking to Melinda and Felicia beeped in but when I got back you were here, I guess you were all calling at the same time.

Mom: (laughing) The Doctor is coming back in, talk to Jen for a minute.

Jen: (Melinda’s Daughter) Hey Uncle Jimmy

Me: OK Jen I was just talking to your Mom on her cell and lost her, so I probably had better call her back here in a minute.

Jen: Yeah you better, but she was using my phone

Me: Oh OK so you must be using Grannies phone then.

Jen: No silly I am using mine.

Me: So your Mom is right there with you

Jen: No she left to go check on Brie (Jen’s Daughter)

Me: So she went home?

Jen: No she is out in the hall let me go get her for you.

Me: I thought you said she wasn’t there

Melinda: Yes she is still here; I think they are going to keep her for a couple days

Me: So they are going to keep her for a couple days, did they say why.

Melinda: Nope but the Doctor is in there right now, I’ll call you back.

Then my Brother calls to tell me everything that the girls had just said, it was just enough information from them all to tell me nothing but at the same time that she is OK

Mom seems to be doing fine, hopefully we will get results tomorrow, it doesn’t appear to be anything serious, but I am seriously afraid to answer another call from my Sisters because my brain is still trying to process how I got from person to person, for the life of me I still don’t know how many phones were involved, I think I will stick to calling Mom direct from now on and not answering the beep, are you as confused as I.

  3. This is why I ignore call waiting signals when I'm on my cell. It just gets too complicated!

Hope your Mom is truly ok.

  4. Jimmy, I hope your Mom is okay. Please keep us posted. I can't stand the "call waiting" feature and only use it if I am expecting an important call that cannot be easily returned. (And if that call comes in, I hang up the phone from the person I'm on with first.) Drives me nuts!

  14. I'm right there with you. I'm pretty good at technical things, but those that I don't care about, I never bother to learn...

    great and funny story!

  15. Thank You Pat, I think that is it in a nutshell, the things we don't care about we never bother to learn, I never did care much for a cell phone :)
