Fake Or Real

Sometimes you have to look really close to see if they are fake or real, most people really enjoy real ones but look at how easy it is to get really big fake ones, because everyone likes big ones, and for just a little more money you can get huge ones that look real depending on where you get them, myself I have always loved real ones, when I was a young man I could just sit and stare at them for hours, when no one else was looking I just had to reach out and touch one, the feel was amazing and placing my face really close and breathing in slowly gave me a feeling I will always remember, I never saw fake ones until I was a bit older, and now that I am a bit older the small fake ones work just fine, we always hang ornaments on fake ones now. Yes I said ornaments and this is a family site so Christmas trees is the subject here just in case your mind was wandering.

One memory of a real Christmas tree I had was the first year I took it upon myself to go out and get the family Christmas tree, I was raised in South Carolina so there were plenty of trees around but you don’t just go and cut one without asking, I drove my Gran Torino Sport all the way up to my Uncle Chester’s house and asked him if he knew where I could get one, he pointed me to an area across the road and said that I could cut any tree I wanted on his land, as long as I stayed in the area he told me, I did exactly what he said and marched myself into the woods and carefully picked the best looking tree I could find.

This tree was beautiful and I didn’t realize how large it was until I began dragging it back to my car, you remember I said car, yes this was a two door Gran Torino Sport and I actually stuffed this tree inside, for the long trip home, the trunk was up in the back window and this tree was twisted and turned leaving only room for me to barely fit into the drivers seat, this actually looked like a car wreck with a tree rolling down the highway, with limbs sticking out of every window, and the top of the tree crammed into my windshield partially blocking my view, heck I think a nest of owls actually flew out while I was sitting at the stop sign.

At home Mom just smiled as I was trying to get it out of the car, she told me it was too large and after trying to get it into the door of the house there was some strategic trimming done, leaving enough limbs to make several more trees and enough lumber to build a small house, I think I actually saw Charlie Brown make off with one of the limbs, this tree was beautiful and I learned from this experience to choose smaller trees after that, I also learned that it is easier to tie one to the roof if you don’t have a truck, and that once you transport a real Christmas tree inside your car, the need for a little pine tree air freshener goes out the window forever.

  4. We always go cut down a real one. In fact, the last few years, we've been planting fir seedlings on our property in hopes of being able to just drag one up the hill to our house when we get too old to travel to a tree farm! (Kidding, sort of .....)

  5. Becca, I am proud you didn't hit escape Ha Ha, we too had real trees for a long time but now it is so much easier with the artificial ones and the clean up is much quicker too.

    Glad you enjoyed it Becca

  7. Cocotte, planting the fir seedlings is an impressive thing to be doing, yes it will be closer to drag one to the house and if you wanted to just light them up right there without dragging or cutting them.

  8. fake tree for me as getting a real tree when you don't have a car is difficult. Don't mind either way but the smell of a pine tree is lovely. Maybe I should hang pine air fresheners of the fake tree branches LOL

  10. I'm with you, Jimmy....I've always prefered real ones over fake ones. However, some of the fake ones I've seen, REALLY look real. It's amazing!

While living in Florida, I cut down my one and only real Christmas tree in a little town called, Christmas, Florida. There was nothing quite like that experience. I loved having a tree in my apartment that I was able to select and cut down myself. It was small however, because my apartment was very tiny at the time.

And the worst tree I ever had was when I was a kid. My father insisted that we get one of those silver trees (gag me) and placed red balls on it.

It looked like a Disco tree - HA!

Hope you had a great day, bud!

  11. Hehe....was wondering where you were headed with this;0)
Did the tree have any needles left on it afterwards? Seems to me it would have been "needleless" after all transporting it went through:)

  12. We always have a real one...I don't like fake anything for that matter! Just the word fake implies something less than natural. Plus...the whole house benefits from the smell. If I don't talk to you before please have a wonderful Christmas.

  13. I have alternated between real and fake trees..

I prefer a real tree as I love the smell of the tree. This year I was given a gift (artifical tree) and it is perfect.

PS- Your story had me going..lol..

    Jimmy have a beautiful holidays!!!!

  14. Ron, I do remember those aluminum trees, I always hated the looks of those, yes sir disco trees is a good name for them Ha Ha A real tree that you cut down yourself is something everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime in my opinion.

  15. Hey Dawn, Aren’t you glad you continued reading :^0 Surprisingly enough there were plenty of needles left on that tree and even more in the carpet of my car, heck I think they were still there when I sold it years later :^)

  17. Good Morning Lynne, Yes I agree with you on the real trees but there is nothing wrong with a good looking artificial one, easy to store and easy to clean up after, and the gift of one even better.

    A Wonderful Christmas to you.
