Slipping In It

With Halloween coming many of us will be writing scary stories, or telling of our adventures passing out candy, or going with the kids to gather it, but how many of you have really seen a ghost?

What exactly is a ghost? Are ghosts no more than a distant memory of someone who has passed on, a brief gust of cold air that seems to pass right through you, a lost soul who feels like they still have things to do before passing over, or an evil being whose only purpose is to scare the beejeezus out of you.

I shared a story with you a couple years ago called Tracks In The Snow, that tells of a crying baby upstairs, tracks from unknown origins, and the passing of a man who never really left me.

Whether or not you believe in this sort of thing, I know that just a little sound will sometimes give me goose bumps, is this my imagination or was that screech something I should pay attention to.

That cold breeze that just passed through you, did it really happen, or were you mistaken?

Memories of your loved ones can give you a strong feeling, some long gone or recently passed can feel like they are looking right into your soul, pay attention to these feelings because they are real, a dearly departed loved one may just be looking in on you, or one that wasn’t so dear can be just messing with you.

Either way you are getting a message, whether you want it or not it is real. Are you just getting a flashback of a strong memory, or is a ghostly being trying it’s best to scratch its way into your soul? I tend to go for the latter.

Are there such things as evil ghosts or are they all just folks who don’t realize they are dead yet? For those that don’t know they are dead yet how do we help them along? I say stay the hell out of their way because you don’t want to go along for that ride.

And for those that are just evil I say the answer is exactly the same, stay the hell out of their way because playing around with an evil ghost will take more than Casper to save you.

Laying all jokes aside I believe in an afterlife so to say, whether our spirit hangs around for a while to check in on loved ones, maybe to help the ones left behind cope, or simply because they don’t realize they are gone yet.

Either way if you have the chance of an encounter with a ghost, my suggestion is to sit real still and enjoy the experience, because if you jump up and run away screaming, you stand the chance of running into something and hurting yourself.
At least if you sit real still you can enjoy the experience, because the puddle of pee will be all in one spot and not spread out to where you can slip in it.

What is your opinion about Ghosts and have you ever seen one?

  1. I believe in the power of the human mind to see or imagine anything. I think Shakespeare said it best: At night how easily is a bush supposed a bear.

    1. Yes Stephen the mind can sure make you see anything, especially at night.

  2. there are so many things in this world that can not be explained that I give room for the possibility of 'ghosts.' I have had many experiences that have scared me, comforted me and everything in-between. Why not? Do you like those shows where they go looking for ghosts? I can't watch anything like that, it's too darn creepy. I prefer to think that my ghosts are with me to help me, guide me, comfort me and make me laugh...not all bad eh?

    1. Hi Joanne, I do enjoy watching those type of programs at times, but like you I feel the spirits I encounter are more apt to be there for my comfort and guidance more so than harm.

  3. I agree with what Joanne said that there are so many things that can't be explained, but I tend to think once we are dead we are dead and we aren't coming back in this world and I don't think we have connections with those that have passed with them talking to us, being with us other than in our thoughts, etc. For those of us that have a faith, we believe in an afterlife and eternity with the God we worship so I know there is something past the life we live now, but I just don't put much "faith" in ghosts. However, having said that, the house I lived in for seven years when I was growing up had something weird in it though I wouldn't know what to call it, but I know what I saw and I believe what my mom related with experiences and none of us kids ever wanted to go upstairs alone to the bathroom after it got dark outside. So basically, I'm clueless about this all.

    1. Hi Betty, I do believe there is a God and after my death my soul will live on in his presence, and as far as ghosts go I have had experiences that lead me to believe in them, not the scary "gonna get ya" type but spirits that are still around for one reason or another, I really don't have an explanation other than I believe :)

  4. My trail of pee came from seeing a rat. Seeing a ghost caused something else entirely, which I won't mention. I absolutely believe.

    1. Yes I can see how a rat would cause you to break and run Ha Ha especially when they sneak up on you so to say.

  5. I believe in ghosts, indeed I had one once. It was friendly but mischievous, in fact it was a child.

I would like to think our spirits hang around to check on those we leave behind... I know I shall be curious ...lol. Happy weekend.

    1. Yes Valerie, the type you described are what I believe also, I imagine the spirit of a child hangs around simply looking for a parent.

  6. I don't believe, but then again, I've never encountered anything strange like so many others report.

    1. Hi Bijoux, Never having experienced anything like this explains you not believing, some of the experiences are both comforting and scary at the same time, I imagine a lot has to do with strong memories and an active imagination, but on the other hand it is possible that they are real.

  7. I believe the mind is a powerful force. What people may perceive as an outside occurrence (ghost) may just be something our own mind created. However, I think to call this a "figment of your imagination" would be too flippant. If our mind thinks something happened, that we saw a ghost, there probably was a reason, a need, for it.

    1. Excellent explanation, I like what you said, whether real or not if our mind saw it then there was a reason or need.

  8. Hahaha! Love your costumes. Dang! You guys are scary!!

I think ghosts (most of them) are residual energies, the rest are evil entities. I've had experiences - mainly in a house where a guy killed himself and where my grandma passed away. My alarm would go off at 3am every night. Once, even when it was unplugged.....

    1. Hi Angelia, We had a ball that Halloween :^0

A house where people died I believe maintains their spirit somehow, I just imagine the alarm clock ringing at that time had some sort of message, did that particular time mean anything that related to the people who died there?

  9. Why is it so few people believe in ghosts, yet the basis of religion for 50% of the world is "THe Holy Ghost?"

I'm just supprised to find someone else who uses the term "beejeesus."

    1. Hey Joe, "I'm just supprised to find someone else who uses the term "beejeesus." I am not sure where that one came from it just sounded good at the time, I imagine if I look back through my posts I will find it in more places :)

Yes Sir The Holy Ghost is a big deal when it comes to our religious upbringing, I wouldn't want it any other way.

    I do too, Jimmy!

In fact, I've seen one in the house of the apartment I lived behind in Florida. And I will never forget it. It was just a flash of an image (a man) walking down the staircase.

"At least if you sit real still you can enjoy the experience, because the puddle of pee will be all in one spot and not spread out to where you can slip in it."

HAHAHAHAHHAAHAHA! Love that photo of you and Cindy!!!

    Have a super weekend, buddy!

    1. Hey Ron, I remember you mentioning that spirit in the past, those souls are the ones I can't explain, like a couple I have experienced who were not related and came out of the blue, there has to be a reason for them also.

A Great weekend to you too Buddy.

  11. I believe in an after life and the immortality of our souls. Not sure about ghosts hanging around, but I also believe that there is a lot going on that we are not aware of. There are just too many strange "coincidences" that can't be random.

That said, I'm pretty sure my grandmother has visited me twice since she died over 30 years ago.

Stories about ghost children Freak. Me. OUT!

    1. Yes Abby the ones involving children do tug at you in a different manner, the baby crying I talked about in Tracks In The Snow
still bothers me to this day.

I am sure your Grandmother has visited you, I have no doubt about that.

  12. yes..spirits exist ...good and bad ones. the Catholic church just changed all of our responses so when the priest says, "God be with you" the response is now "and with your spirit."

    1. Hi Annmarie, This response by the Catholic church is comforting, God blesses us all whether alive or in spirit form, we have to be thankful of this.

  13. Jimmy. I'm a bit boring and don't believe in ghosts or the afterlife. I do believe that the human mind is a complicated organ that can make us "see" all sorts of things. The only spirits in my world are gin and vodka!

    1. Hi Bryan, This is exactly what keeps life interesting, each of us have different views and I agree with you 100% in that the mind can make you see almost anything.

"The only spirits in my world are gin and vodka!" and too much of these spirits at one time can make you see things also :)

Good to see you my Friend.
