Professional fan

I grew up in South Carolina, very close to Greenville-Pickens Speedway, so needless to say stock car racing was a big part of my life, I never drove a race car but was always a fan, a professional fan you could say.

Last year our daughter gave tickets to the Auto Club 400 at Fontana, California for Cindy and I as a Christmas gift, we had such a good time and were estatic when she upgraded and repeated the gift this year.

I pulled for Bobby Allison and Coo-Coo Marlin until they retired, Rusty Wallace, Sterling Marlin, and awesome Bill from Dawsonville Elliott, while they were driving, since Rusty retired Kevin Harvick has been my main driver, we actually met him last year and saw him again last weekend.
I was never known to pull for a driver just because he was winning all the time, I survived ribbing from my friends as Petty, Earnhardt, and Gordon went to victory lane, and gave it right back when Harvick finally took the championship.

Never say never, I once said that I would never pull for the 24, there are a lot of new drivers coming into the sport and yes there is a lot of talent being shown, Bill Elliott's son Chase started driving the 24 last year, and although I don't care for his car number I do like this kid.
I will stick with my driver whether he is winning or not, but I have a feeling that when it comes time for him to retire, that 24 just may move up as my main driver.

Which sport do you follow and who is your favorite driver or player?

  2. Hey Jimmy! Glad to see that you are out and about. I've only been to one stock car race. It was loud and exciting and I have no idea why I've never gone to another. Hope you guys are doing well. Hello to Cindy!

  3. Could never got into auto racing, not a great sport for TV, probably exciting at the track. I have to go with Football, and even though he is a bit of a head case I'll say Odell Beckham.

    1. Hey Joe, watching on tv and being there are two different worlds for sure, I suppose you see more with racing on tv depending on how familiar you are with the drivers, if not a sport you are keeping up with it's just cars going in a circle.

  4. Hellooooo, Jimmy, how nice to see you blogging again. When my Joe was alive we followed motor racing on TV but when we were younger we went to all the meetings in the UK, stock cars as well. Anything auto was good for us.

Hello Valerie, It is great to hear from you again, there is a lot of joy in following a sport like this, stock car racing works as well for us as does football and other sports for many of our friends, we will be in front of the TV cheering on our favorites tomorrow, you have a great weekend and hope to see you again soon.

    1. Hey Lady, Good to see you too, well if you don't follow sports I can't see any reason why Bruce Springsteen wont count...works for me.

  6. GREAT to see ya blogging again, Jimmy! You have been VERY missed by many. Love the pictures. Great seeing seeing Cindy again too!

I don't really follow sports, but it's ironic you post about stock car racing because I was watching a movie several nights ago and there was a scene in which they was a stock car racing scene, I kid you not!

Hope all is well with you, buddy. Say Hi to Cindy for me!

    1. Hey Ron, it's always great to see you my friend, and thank you for your kind words.

Stock car racing is a big part of many communities, it is really a big thing where I was raised, like you said not being a fan but still seeing it as part of a movie you were enjoying just shows how much a part of our history it is.
