Kicking the bucket

I have decided to kick the bucket, decisions have been made and lists completed, but I just can't seem to keep up anymore, with that said I'm ending it all.
My wife started a bucket list and I felt pressured to do the same, I have no problem doing this, but my list would be so short because I am comfortable no matter what we do, does this mean when I get to the end of my list that my life is all over...I think not, I just won't make a list.

I like road trips and would love to visit each state in the US, so far we have traveled through about a dozen, but passing through and visiting is two different things, it would be so cool just to drive into a state and stop at every tourist trap and attraction, then take time to eat in as many local diners and talk to the folks who live there, just think we could have Cindy review each place we stop to eat, that would be so great.

I once thought of riding my motorcycle from coast to coast, Cindy and I sailing down the highway in the sunshine, sitting under an overpass waiting out a rainstorm, viewing the beauty of our country unobstructed and doing whatever I choose, kind of like Forrest Gump running across America only on a bike, I could have actually combined this with the one above, but since Cindy and I married she doesn't like riding as much as she did when we were dating....go figure.

I have never been out of the United States, I would love to visit another country like Scotland where my last name hails from, Holland where Cindy's Great grandfather sailed from, or England and Australia just to name a couple other great places to see, I would love to go someplace like this, but if it never happens I am content.

This looks like the beginning of a list I could make, but why make one if I am comfortable no matter what we do, why throw all of my wishes into a bucket, why not just let them continue to flow through my head, and be happy with the ones we complete, and even happier at the ones we don’t, because I can still dream about them rather than add them to a list that never gets completed.

What is the most important thing on your bucket list?

  1. I don't have a bucket list either. There are certain things I'd love to do before I die like visit Gracelands, if it happens that would be great but if it doesn't I'm okay with that too.

    1. Hey Joe, Graceland is a good place to go, we went a few years back and really enjoyed it, just go in knowing that the house itself is an old southern two story house and not a huge mansion and you will definitely not be disappointed.

    1. Now that is an impressive list, you have been a busy lady, I bet flying out of LA to attend a party in London then returning the next was tiring to say the least, but well worth it at the same time.

  3. I'm slowly knocking things off my list, a trip to ALaska this spring will be one more. I have several that I dont think I'll ever make...bowl 300, hit a hole in one in golf, so I'll always have something to shoot for.

    1. That is what it is all about Joe, I was hoping to make that same point, as long as we have something to look forward to then in my opinion Life is good.

I hope your trip to Alaska this spring is amazing.

  4. I don't have a bucket list. In fact, I only learned recently what a bucket list was! Joe and I did our share of travelling the world but never used a list of things to do. We knew what we wanted and did it when we wanted, no list needed. However, I think a list applies to other things, not just travel, so can I continue to write down the tasks I need to do...grins.

    1. The way you and Joe did is the same as us, Cindy has begun a bucket list but it is nothing that we follow, yes one applies to a lot more than just travel, I thought I had better stop writing before my post became a book.

  5. Honestly, I've never made (or had) an official bucket list. I love to travel, so there are places I would like to visit. I would like to see more of America, but also go back to Europe to visit more countries (like Italy). Also, I would like to visit Japan again. My dream has always been to take a cruise to Alaska!

Fun post, Jimmy! Loved your opening sentence!

    1. Isn't America such a diverse place? There are actually so many things to do right here, and the different food choices across the States....

The places you mention sound exciting, I bet Japan was interesting to say the least, it's always great to have you drop by Ron.

  6. I'm so content too that I don't have a bucket list. But it was fun to see the poppy fields, something I had thought to do for the 11 springs I have lived here, pretty close by. We just thought of it and did it.

    1. Seeing the poppy fields had to be a beautiful sight, I have a feeling it would be something you may want to do again sometime, I like the idea of just thinking of something and doing it, to me it makes a trip more enjoyable.

      Glad you joined us Inger.

  7. Frankly, the most important thing on my personal bucket list is that I want to travel someplace where I can clearly see the stars again. As a kid it was just dark enough in my neighborhood at night to see the Milky Way spread out the night sky. The sight of it literally would blow my little mind.

Since then nighttime landscape lighting around homes and the simple growth of urban environments has created a great deal of light pollution that blocks out most of the stars. Another thing that makes it hard for me is that my eyesight isn't the best.

The absolute best viewing conditions are in desert in Southern Chile close to the ultra modern and very large multinational telescopes that have been built down there. I've looked into it, there are charter trips down there but they, naturally, are quite expensive.

    1. This sounds like a great idea, with a view like you described would definitely be one that would be good for the soul and also clear your mind, this would have to leave you in awe.

Yes I am sure a trip like this would be pricy but worth it at the same time.

  8. I like your attitude of having certain dreams, but not feeling a need to check them off a list. That said, your first paragraph had me a bit worried!

I've often had an unexpectedly fun time doing something or going somewhere that I wouldn't have even known to put on a bucket list!

    1. Thank you Abby, it is the unexpected things you can enjoy when you don't have a list to follow, Cindy always had a list when we drove across country heading for SC, but it was always the things we stumbled onto that weren't on the list that we had the most fun at, unexpectedly having fun, I like how you worded that.

  9. I'm with you Jimmy! I just can't (and don't want to) have that much structure in my life. Okay, if I did have a bucket list, one of the items would be visit Australia. The problem is that it would take a person at least a couple of years to see Australia. Probably more than that. Imagine how much time it would take to see even a fraction of the U.S.? Or even California? I'm fine with doing what I do, and seeing what I can.
Besides, my list would be miles long...

    1. You are so right Pat, to properly see anywhere would take a lot more time than we realize, "doing what I do, and seeing what I can" well said my friend.

  10. Travel seems to be on my bucket list as well. I'm not adventurous enough to do stuff like hang gliding, etc.
