Where are you going?

One night last week Cindy said to me, "I'm going to the mexican restaurant and getting burritos for supper, is that OK with you?" It had been a while since we have had mexican so I agreed and gave her my choice by saying, "Sounds good, but I'd rather have a grilled chicken taco salad."

Cindy's Dad really likes a small restaurant close to us called Flo's Country Cafe, he had mentioned wanting an omelet from Flo's, so Cindy told me that since she was going to be right there she would pick one up for him.

That works, I said, "Flo's food is always good," "So you are saying that you would rather have Flo's?" she asked, "No I still want the taco salad from the mexican restaurant."

She grabbed her pocketbook and keys and said, I'm getting ready to go, set the table for me and I'll be right back, she then went into the living room to tell her dad she was going to pick up our food.

Cindy said: "Hey Dad, I'm going to get our food, be right back."

"Where are you going?" he asked.

"To get our food."

"WHERE are you going?"

"TO Get Our Food."

"No where are you going to get our food from?"

"Oh sorry, going to the mexican restaurant and Flo's."

"What's Jimmy having?"

"Taco salad." she said

"But he likes Flo's, didn't you tell him you were going to Flo's."

I was listening to this exchange when Cindy called me to join in the conversation. Dad wanted me to make sure if you would rather have Flo's instead of mexican? No the taco salad sounds good I assured them, but Dad is having Flo's and he didn't want you to have mexican just because I'm having burritos.

She then hands me a menu from Flo's she happened to have. Look at the menu and tell me what you want.

I started to speak, I want....., she gave me that look and said, Just look at the menu......., but I want the taco salad! I didn't know I changed my mind, Okay I'll get you the taco salad!

Cindy calls in our food and leaves to pick it up, these restaurants are very close to our house so she wasn't gone too long.

Cindy's Dad says "Wow look at this omelet, that's a lot of food."

He takes a bite, "Man this is good."

I'm looking at my taco salad and thinking, I should have gotten Flo's.

What is your favorite restaurant or food when you go out to eat?

    1. Hi Lisa, those are usually the types we have ha ha.

Well we can say it's half way to Saturday and y'all could go tonight.

  3. Oh man, you have me laughing at this one. Sometimes nothing is easy.

Probably the only food I don't like very much is Mexican. I love Italian, or a good steak/seafood restaurant. For take-out I love a good NJ/NY style pizza (no papa johns or pizza hut fake crap thank you) but my absolute favorite is Chinese.

    1. Hey Joe, Cindy loves Chinese, me not so much but I have to take one for the team occasionally.

What do you think of the Olive Garden for Italian?

      Good to see you Joe.

  4. I love Mexican food once in awhile but I often long for pizza or oriental. Pizza is hard to get for just one so I don't have it often and there isn't a close-by oriental place, so ditto on not getting that as often as I'd like. Thankfully, I love omelets and I go out for breakfast often.

    1. Hi Jean, I could eat breakfast anytime, Cindy treats us once in a while and makes breakfast for supper.

Yes pizza is not so easy to order for one, have you tried putting the leftovers in a zip lock bag and saving for lunch another day, we have frozen it and heated it later when we have more than we can eat.

  5. I hate Chinese food, and I won't touch sushi or any other raw protein. Other than that, I love most other foods. My favorite entree is fish tacos.

    1. Hi Bijoux, I do like fish tacos, one restaurant here makes a grilled shrimp taco that is good too.

Like I mentioned to Joe Chinese is not my favourite either, I tried sushi once but was not impressed, I'll stick with the cooked version.

  7. I really don't have a favourite restaurant, mainly because I really am not much of a foodie and I'm a bit of a peasant when it comes to eating. I love going out to eat as long as I can get a burger and fries or something pretty basic. My partner on the other hand loves to eat in posh places.

    1. When it comes down to it I prefer more of a basic menu too, I hate going anywhere that I don't understand the menu.

      Good to see you Joey

  8. I live in a tiny town with few choices so I usually prefer my own cooking. When I am in Florida it is the Bone Fish.

    1. The smaller towns do limit your choices, you can't go wrong with home cooking though.

Do you have any small "mom and pop shop" type restaurants there locally? I have found sometimes the food isn't the greatest but sitting down and listening to the locals makes up for it.

  11. I only eat out if the kids have invited me somewhere, then I just go wherever they've chosen and read the menu thoroughly when I get there. If they've been there before they'll tell me what's good, usually they choose to go to any place new or recommended by someone else.
On my own, I eat at home, it's quicker and cheaper.

    1. Good morning River, we have been at the mercy of our children going to a new place, most times it works out well and like you we have to ask them what is good, I prefer a basic menu because the more that is on one the more confused I become.

Eating at home is the best bet for sure.

  12. I only eat out once a month, when I meet a friend for lunch. Mostly I look through the menu and end up choosing fish and chips. The reason for that is I don't eat great quantities any more and can cope with a piece of fish. In earlier days I loved Italian and Chinese - not together mind!

    1. Hi Valerie, Cindy really likes chinese and italian, I can eat them but out of the three I'd pick fish and chips.

I can't eat as much as I used to either, smaller portions work better.

Meeting a friend for lunch on a monthly basis and isn't it funny that you will read the menu but still order the same thing, we tend to do that also.

  13. We used to like the fish and chips at Captain Jack's but we don't eat anything deep fried anymore so that leaves the chicken pot pie at Swiss Chalet or a few of the items on William's menu. We don't eat out much anymore. Maybe next time she goes out for food you could get something from each place...you know...have some for later.

    1. Good morning Delores, I can relate to the deep fried foods, was raised on them but can't eat them anymore, the chicken pot pie sounds good.

I lucked out yesterday, she got me an ortega chili turkey burger on a wheat bun from Flo's, it was awesome and there were no leftovers ha ha.

  14. We go to a retirement luncheon once a month at a Thai restaurant, where we're served family-style and get to eat a little bit of lots of fabulous dishes. The basil chicken is my favorite, but it's ALL good. Ordinarily, if we're planning to go out for a meal on our own, we opt for a good seafood restaurant, but Chinese buffets and pizza at a good Italian pizzeria score lots of points with us, too. What can I say? We like to EAT. :) Most of the time, I usually prefer to cook it myself, though.

  15. I loved this exchange between the three of you. I felt I was right there with you and Cindy and her Dad. Traveling we have sampled all types of food, including Mexican which I haven't had in a long time but tried recently and really enjoyed it. When we are home we love to go to this one particular Thai restaurant. Love Thai food and we have started making it at home now, for some time.

    1. Thank you Denise, isn't it amazing the different types of food you find while traveling, and for mexican food you were just in a good territory for that.
