Posing at the front gate |
When our Grandson Benjamin came to visit a few weeks ago, the only thing he really asked his Mimi for was for us to take him to Legoland, which you already know happened. If the grandbaby wants something, all he has to do is to ask Mimi, it's funny how quickly they learn this, and usually when they ask Mimi, she makes it happen.
Our trip began like any other theme park, first you had to go through the line that leads you through the gate. They take your tickets, stamp your hand, look through your bags, and once they deem you worthy of passing through into the "Land of...wherever you are at the time" I suppose we were in the "Land of plastic bricks." You are then allowed to enter.
Cindy did save us a little time on the bag search, she packed all of our stuff in a clear plastic backpack, so all they had to do was look it over rather than dig through it. Next time you go somewhere like this, try a clear plastic backpack.
After going through the gate you always gather into a group for a picture showing that you have arrived, usually a theme park employee is snapping pictures to sell you later on but I never saw one here, so Cindy grabbed a random passersby and asked them to take a few pictures for us.

Papa and Mimi resting for a moment. |
Then what is the first thing that you do? Do you go running and screaming throughout the park jumping on rides and playing the games...Noooo the first thing we did was to follow Mimi into the gift shop because she is going to buy Benjamin a Legoland tee shirt. She actually bought everybody a tee shirt, everybody but me that is...I got a hat, I like hats.
It wasn't long before Mimi and Papa had to sit, for a minute anyways. There are a lot of things to do at Legoland and needless to say this place is definitely designed for younger kids, it was perfect for Benjamin.
|
Benjamin driving a Lego car. |
Almost everything is either made out of Legos or looks like one, there are Lego cars to drive, that is after you (the children) go through a line and (for a nominal fee, to cover the photos) receive a "Legoland Drivers License" it was really a fun time, he actually did this attraction twice, skipping the driving school the second time, you know since he was already a licensed Legoland driver.
|
Benjamin giving his mom a boat ride. |
There were Lego boats that Benjamin got to give his Mom a ride on, yes he was actually driving, I think his Legoland drivers license covered him here also. His face was so serious for the majority of the time he was driving, especially after he got it up against the side to begin with and realized that he was actually controlling the boat.
|
Benjamin with more than just his head in the lion's mouth. |
There were Lego critters that the kids were allowed to go behind or to pose with for pictures. The Lego lion was really cool, Benjamin was going to stick his head into the lion's mouth but I think he took it a little too literally...
|
Papa and Benjamin locked inside the jailhouse. |
Benjamin and Papa got into some minor trouble once or twice, I am just happy that Mimi didn't sentence me to a longer stay in the hoosegow, you all know that Benjamin got released early because the trouble he was in was most likely Papa's fault anyway.
|
Benjamin, Tim, and Cindy walking hand in hand in hand. |
Cindy got to spend some quality time and bond with our Baby Boy (Tim) and Benjamin too. Cindy is carrying the clear plastic backpack boasting my favorite NASCAR drivers number, seriously this is a good thing for when your bags are going to be searched.
|
Benjamin and Tim clowning around while standing in line. |
Tim and Benjamin had a great time no matter what we were doing, even standing in line was fun.
|
Cindy, Benjamin aka Lloyd, and Jimmy |
Benjamin got to dress up as his favorite Lego character "Lloyd" and was even in a costume competition later on in the evening, he didn't win because the winners looked like they had been working on their costumes since last year, but that's OK it was a lot of fun and Benjamin got to get up on stage and describe his costume, I think he just may have a future as a comedian because he really took charge of the crowd and had us all laughing.
|
Benjamin dressed as Lloyd posing with a character made from Legos |
Benjamin got to ride a lot of rides, dress up as a Lego character, and pose with a lot of really detailed items made completely out of Lego bricks.
|
Benjamin with the young woman he danced with. |
And one that he found not made out of Lego bricks, he really liked this one and even danced with her for two dances. She was really good with him and is a terrific cast member for Legoland, I have to say that this could have been his favorite Lego character, we must have been too caught up in the moment to get a picture of the dance routine, doesn't he look like a little charmer.
|
Benjamin had a terrific day, Legoland was perfect for him. |
All in all it was a terrific day for Benjamin, Legoland is definitely a fun place for kids of his age, not really so much for adults, we did have a good time though, but once is enough for me...that is until another Grandbaby says "Hey Mimi, can we go to Legoland."
Wow! It's totally amazing to me that this park and others has been created completely from legos or to look like legos. The interactivity seems so fun,and glad Benjamin really enjoyed himself. Me - I would have probably sat on the haystack until everyone was finished. (lol) Thanks for such great pics, too! Hugs...and Happy Friday! RO
ReplyDeleteI was actually amazed at a lot of the sights we saw, and amazed at the pictures we failed to take, there was a whole miniature city with vehicles, people and everything made out of Legos too, that was impressive.
DeleteHappy Friday to you RO and a Great weekend too.
That looks like more fun than Disneyland.
ReplyDeleteI agree Annie, if I seriously had to choose between the two Disneyland wouldn't be my choice.
DeleteHard to find any boy that age who likes to dance. I asked my nephew to find a girl to dance with at my brother's wedding, he said he was too scared and hid.
ReplyDeleteHis Dad Tim was always a good dancer when he was younger, so we shouldn't have been surprised to see that Benjamin is a good dancer too.
DeleteMost kids are like you described and will hide.
What a great day you gave him....one for the memory book.
ReplyDeleteYes Delores this is definitely one for the memory book, I know that he had a really good time.
DeleteNothing like a great day spent with family and you all seemed to have a great time! I enjoyed this post very much~
ReplyDeleteHello Jan, Yes we all really had a great time, I love doing anything that involves family. I am glad that you enjoyed the post and really pleased that you joined us, Thank You.
DeleteThat sounds like so much fun! What a wonderful family place to visit to make memories!
ReplyDeleteIt was a really busy day Sharon, but it was a blast from start to finish, I am actually glad that we went.
DeleteWhat great fun and wonderful memories for all of you. Kids grow up so fast these years, you've got to take advantage of opportunities like Legoland. Wouldn't you love to have a job building giant Lego things.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right Jean, kids grow up really fast it seems like just yesterday that Tim was Benjamin's age, it would be really amazing to build some of those Lego sculptures indeed.
DeleteI've never been there, but I hear it is most fun. I would go if I was closer. I'd take my great granddaughter too. She's a huge Lego fan.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day and weekend. ☺
Sandee if your Great Granddaughter is a Lego fan it just may be worth the trip.
DeleteA great weekend to you my friend.
I believe there is a Lego-land in the UK - or was, but I am not sure where. I don't think it had the same support as the one you visited. Oh to be a child again and able to have such fun, or indeed a grandparent who could join in.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure Valerie but I do suspect that there is one in the UK, I know there are several around.
DeleteOh my wouldn't it be something to be a child again and to visit places like this, I would so love to have my grandparents with me again.
I had no idea there were rides or Lego characters walking around. Looks like a lot of fun! When I was a kid, we had the cheap knockoff brand of Legos called, 'American Bricks' 😂😂😂
ReplyDeleteThere really was quite a bit to do, even some rides for adults, and a lot of characters too, not sure if more were there for that particular day or not, it was a special Halloween event open until nine that night for those who had a wristband, and yes Cindy bought the wristbands. Ha ha.
DeleteI love this post and can just imagine how much fun that place would be for kids. I think getting a driver's license and get to steer a boat must be the best for a boy like Benjamin.
ReplyDeleteGetting the drivers license and actually driving both the boat and cars had to be a lot of fun, a lot better setup than those rides on tracks with disconnected steering wheels.
DeleteIt's good to see you Inger.
This brings back memories. We took our kids there when they were aged 2 to 8. Good times! I don't remember any cast members there, though.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you all had a great day. Clear backpack - good idea!
We did in fact have a great day Abby, I bet you had a ball when your kids were 2 and 8, that is a great age for Legoland in my opinion.
DeleteCindy came up with that clear backpack idea before we went to the race earlier in the year, it worked so well we always use it for events like this now.
Great pictures. Now that our boy is grown our vacuum cleaner is sighing with relief at not sucking up Lego pieces.
ReplyDeleteOh Lordy Stephen, I do remember that sound of a lego being sucked up into the vacuum, clank, clank, clank, fwoosh as it beats it's way around the roller ha ha.
DeleteLove this post!! We went to Legoland shortly after it opened. They didn't have near as much stuff but it was still fun!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Fran, They were building more stuff while we were there, there is no telling what will be added in the next few years. More stuff to look for when the next grandbaby comes along.
DeleteThe smile on his face says it all. He obviously loved everything about the day. How cool to give them driver's licenses and was impressed with his dancing with the cast member. No shy boy here.
ReplyDeletePatti, This kid has never met a stranger and I was really impressed with how well he dances, no mam not shy at all.
DeleteIt sounds like a wonderful day - for all of you. Love Cindy's clear backpack solution.
ReplyDeleteHi EC, I believe that we all had nearly as much fun as Benjamin did, the clear backpack worked really well.
DeleteI didn't know there were Lego characters. That boat looks like fun! We still have a big box of Legos. I used to argue with the boys over certain pieces when we were building. I might have enjoyed the Legos more than they did. I considered myself quite a Lego architect, but only for houses, not creative stuff like they made.
ReplyDeleteVal you would have been amazed, they had a mini city built out of Legos, houses, businesses, roads, vehicles, the whole nine yards, it was great. With your Lego architectural skills you would have been happy right there.
DeleteWhat a great day for your grandson! And not too bad for the rest of you, too :) Our kids would have enjoyed this when they were young, especially our son. His interest in Lego continued for many years. The only bad thing I can say about Lego is how much it hurts to step on one in bare feet - oww
ReplyDeleteI have to admit Jenny that we did enjoy ourselves a lot that day, it was really great to see the smiles on Benjamin's face.
DeleteThe pain of stepping on a Lego in bare feet is one a lot of us recognize, and it's one that you always remember too ha ha.
Went to LegoLand years ago when son was then 12 years old (he's 28 now). He was just at the age that he was still into Legos but was just about to move on so it was good we did it then and not any older.
ReplyDeleteLooked like you all had a great time there!
betty
Legoland is an excellent place for the younger kids like that, and especially for anyone who likes Legos, some of the sculptures there are really impressive.
DeleteI bet your son still has good memories of your trip there when he was 12.
It looks like a really fabulous place. My mum would have gone to the gift shop first too. I remember years ago she went to Europe and toured around a bit, and sent the kids postcards from Lego Land in Denmark, I still have them somewhere in an old photo album.
ReplyDeleteBenjamin will love looking back on these photos in years to come.
Those postcards from your Mom are fabulous keepsakes, I'd love to be able to travel around like that a bit, I bet she had a really good time. Wasn't Legoland in Denmark the first one? I believe that you may have told me this once.
DeleteSure wish I could take a trip on that boat one day soon. Or I could use it for a fishing trip. (lol) Hugs...RO
ReplyDeleteHey RO, I have fished some ponds where this boat would be about the right size, I think you may be on to something ha ha.
DeleteI love Legoland! It's great for younger kids who might be overwhelmed by the large, crowded Disney parks.
ReplyDeleteThat was our first visit to Legoland, Benjamin really loved it and I would definitely recommend it for the kids in his age group.
DeleteThis seemed like the perfect place to take Benjamin. I have a nephew that used to love going into the Lego store. I thought that was lego land. Hahaha.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see yall having a good time. Im sure there will be some good stories of you and Cindy. I just know it doesn't end here.
Lisa
Hey Lisa, I bet a lot of people wished they could get by with calling the Lego store Legoland ha ha.
DeleteWe had a ball with the kids there.
Wow ! what fun visit with son and adorable grandson Jimmy!
ReplyDeletei can say the beauty of this hilarious day will last in your mind forever!
I too love to take my kids to the park and specially when they ask for it i have to arrange it .
Cindy sounds like AMAZING lady through your wonderful writing which reveal your deep love for he r.
you both look beautiful and blessed couple together .
i loved looking at the fun pics of whole family adventure .
reminded me when my younger son who is 14 now was hardly three then and i try to made him sit in lion's mouth for pose ah... still remember how long he took to stop crying as he thought loin will eat him lol
I am glad that you had fun reading this and enjoying the pictures. It is great to spend time with our families like this, I can just see your son being afraid of the lion at three, we did the same thing with Benjamin when he was younger and about scared him to death.
