Our Annual racing getaway was a blast, not so good for our favorite driver but a great getaway for us. Coming into this race our driver had won three races in a row and looked good for winning his fourth, but an early brush with the wall after bouncing off another car left him finishing the day 35th out of 37 drivers...
But so much for his bad day, as they say there is always the next race!
I love the fans, no matter who you pull for you always give the other fans a hard time about their driver, but I have yet seen anyone actually get mad at someone because of who their favorite driver is, I know in other sports there have been fights in the stands because a fan was cheering for the wrong team, but with NASCAR I have not yet heard of a fight because you picked the wrong driver.
Just as Cindy and I got to our seats (which were in the middle...go figure) we found our two seats were the only unoccupied ones, thus leaving us having to crawl our way into the mass of race fans...oops, excuse me, sorry, thank you, what?
This is when one man looked me right in the eyes and said "If I had noticed that you were a Kevin Harvick fan I never would have stood up to let you in!", "Oh yeah!" I replied "Who do you pull for?", "I like Kyle Bush!" he proudly said while pointing to his shirt. I took off my hat and held it reverently across my heart and said "I'm sorry, you know there are a lot of good drivers you could pull for, like the #4.", "Oh No, I will always pull for Bush, I know him personally!", "I'm even sorrier to hear that, you know most people wouldn't admit that in public!" After this exchange we shook hands, laughed and wished each other a good day. This is what I love about the fans I have come into contact with, you can give each other a hard time without getting mad about it.
Before the race we had a ticket package that included gathering together with other fans for free food, drinks, activities, and fun listening to our favorite driver answer questions from the crowd. This was a blast especially since we ended up having both brunch, lunch, and a snack before race time, and of course a couple of free beers for me and several Coca Colas for Miss Cindy.
During this time we got to take pictures with an actual race car and of course the Busch Beer girls, you know since Anheuser-Busch is the main sponsor for our team, last year I got pictures with them too, and the Budweiser girls the year before that, and at random times during the races there have been pictures taken with the Monster Energy girls, this girl, that girl and Cindy has always been a good sport about it.
That is until she questioned why there were girls everywhere having their pictures taken with fans, while I was standing there trying to think of a proper response to the question I had no answer for Cindy turned and walked away.
She had found herself a Budweiser employee, a big burly Budweiser man, her very own Bud Guy! I have a feeling that the picture taking model tables have just turned! That's OK though he was a really nice guy and Cindy did like him...
Life has been running faster than the cars went around the track at this race. Since then we have been overloaded with doctor appointments, eye appointments, specialists, family gatherings, upkeep on the house, and very little computer time, you know Real Life as they call it. I want you to know that you are all part of real life too, and my not visiting or posting everyday is simply due to me being overwhelmed with things here on the home front right now, everything is OK and I will be popping in here and there and will post as I catch up with everything around here.

Cindy with her new friend! |

How fun. I know you guys love the races. It's good to see a post from you. I've missed you.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day and weekend. ☺
Yes we definitely love going to the races it is a really fun time for us, once a year is perfect for now and the rest of the time on the TV works just fine. It's good to see you my friend.
DeleteYou two have a great weekend!
I figured that you've been busy and hoped it was fun stuff and not dr appointments, but that's our ages showing! Happy Spring! I'm glad that Cindy found a dude for her own personal photo op!
ReplyDeleteCindy's own personal photo op with her Bud Dude I just had to share, I knew you all would enjoy seeing this one, she sure enjoyed taking it lol.
DeleteI figured you were busy with your trip and the catch up that happens afterward. Glad you both had a good time. With so many female race fans it's surprising the sponsors don't circulate more guys like Cindy's new friend for photo opts. Don't work too hard and we'll see you back in the blogs when we see you.
ReplyDeleteYou are right Jean, there are just as many female race fans as there are males, and having a few guys out there for photo ops along with the girls would be well worth the effort of hiring them for the sponsors, I know Cindy would agree with us on this for sure.
DeleteI'll admit I was a little worried about your absence. Now I know everything's okay.
ReplyDeleteCindy looks like she's having a blast! Hick has some NASCAR memorabilia signed by Greg Biffle, from back when Hick used to go to tool shows every year for his job.
Val I believe Cindy had just as much fun as I did, she was really tickled to run across this guy for a picture, he was a really nice young man they need to hire more just like him.
DeleteI liked Greg Biffle too, I was kind of disappointed to see no one hire him after his contract ran out forcing him into retirement, he was one of the good ones.
Nice to see you pop up in my reader. I was worrying a little - which is one of my talents.
ReplyDeleteReal life takes priority some days. Take care.
Yay for Cindy and table-turning.
Sorry to have worried you EC, I knew that I had better post something or else have to suffer the wrath of all of my friends who I let down, I will try to do better. You are so right Real Life does take priority sometimes and when it does I know my computer time lessens.
DeleteYes Cindy is pretty pleased with herself on turning the tables...I can't say that I blame her though ha ha.
Glad to hear you had a great time! I admit to starting to wonder if things were okay so it's good to hear it's just Real Life to blame.
ReplyDeleteGood-natured ribbing is fun and it doesn't surprise me at all that that's the kind you find yourself a part of :)
I love being around people who can both dish out and take good-natured ribbing like this, it makes whatever you are doing a lot more fun.
DeleteI figure it's the mutli-side of Nascar that keeps the sport's fans from ripping each other alive. Most sports (especially rival games) is one side vs another. I think in politics, America would be more harmonious with a multi-party system like we see in most European countries instead of the two party system we've always had. Side X Vs Side Y never makes up for a peaceful show.
ReplyDeleteExcellent point Adam, having forty plus drivers to choose from as opposed to one side or the other in each race sure cuts down on the friend or foe thought process.
DeleteThe NASCAR fans certainly are more congenial than English soccer fans who seem to often be on the news with the truly horrible fights that go on before, during and after the soccer matches.
ReplyDeleteI've been run off my feet lately with appointments too. I've spent more time waiting around at bus stops than anything else for a fortnight now.
I suppose it must be the season for appointments for a lot of us now River, two weeks waiting around the bus stops has to have gotten old for you rather quickly I hope you are caught up on yours soon.
DeleteI have seen those fights in the stands among soccer fans, I'd be making my way to the exit because I don't go to sporting events for a black eye...or worse!
Oh happy days! I used to go to the races and loved it. In fact, you could almost call me a cheer leader lol. The crowd was different to the fighting fit that attended football matches. Oh happy days, I wish they were back!
ReplyDeleteGood morning Valerie, I can sure see you as a racing fan, isn't it something how differently the experience feels when you are at the track as opposed to watching it on TV. Sitting in the stands you can feel the push of air movement the cars cause as they pass by, and the noise level is amplified to an exciting range that is hard to describe. I remember a track in South Carolina that I used to frequent where you would actually get small rubber pieces from the tires thrown into the stands in addition to everything else, it was great...I wish you were there Valerie.
DeleteI was hoping you were simply having too good of a time to be bothered with posting...glad to hear you enjoyed yourself and are well.
ReplyDeleteThank you Delores, we really had a great time and I felt really bad for not checking in with all of you, but we post when we can huh, yes thank the good lord we are all well...
DeleteWas beginning to worry about you and glad you were just having fun. How about some Chippendale guys for the ladies at those events? Fair is fair.
ReplyDeleteYou know what Patti? I wouldn't have a problem if there were a few Chippendale guys there for the ladies, as long as they don't replace the Busch girls that is. ha ha. Fair is Fair, I agree with you 100%
DeleteHa! Good for Cindy - what's good for the goose is good for the gander!
ReplyDeleteSorry Harvick didn't do so well, but at least he wasn't 37th ;) And sounds like you both had a great time!
"what's good for the goose is good for the gander!" Yes Abby this is so true and Miss Cindy proved that point clearly.
DeleteI'd like to be at a race where he finishes well again, the first one we went to out here he lead the most laps and finished 2nd, which is better than 35th, he is starting 2nd tomorrow so we will see how well he does in Texas ha ha.
No matter where the drivers finish it's all about being able to go and having a good time by just being there, and we did accomplish this.
That's great, sounds like you and Cindy really had a fun time, and I'm so glad you and that other guy were able to shake hands and laugh!
ReplyDeleteWe did have a good time Lon, there are still good people out there and I love meeting people like this man who was ribbing me at the races, because he is one of the good ones.
DeleteI was getting anxious to see your next post. You had me worried there for a little while. Its normal for me not to post for a week but your not allowed to take that long! Haha.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you guys had a great time at the races. My sister in law used to be a “Bud Girl” here in town. I never really admired that about her but its was her cup of tea.
Lisa
Lisa, I'll see what I can do since I am not allowed to delay any of my posts from now on. ha ha
DeleteBeing a Bud Girl or even a Bud Guy would definitely have to be your cup of tea to pull off, Lordy I can't imagine me trying to pull that job off myself, I know the photo ops would be few and far between lol
I hear you on the catching up thing Jimmy. Sometimes it just doesn't seem as if there's enough hours in the day. It seemed like ti was taking me forever to catch up on other projects, and the blog got behind too. I'm finally starting to see light at the end of the tunnel. Very cool about the Bud Guy! (lol) Hugs...RO
ReplyDeleteThe Bud Guy was very cool RO, I thought it was really good for him to take time to do a few pictures with Cindy like he did.
Delete"Sometimes it just doesn't seem as if there's enough hours in the day." this is exactly how I feel right now, you know the old the hurrieder I go the behinder I get routine, but this too will pass...
