Warm Worms

I always loved fishing, this has gone back as far as I can remember that I was going as much as I could, I have actually been fishing from Carolina to California, I have been known in my younger years to stop my truck along the highway and jump out to walk down to a river or pond just to wet a hook so to say, not sure if I could do this now days but I always look the fishing holes over when we are driving.

When Randy and Tim were small Cindy and I would take them fishing a good bit, her Dad and I have had the boys out on more than one occasion and it was always a blast teaching the kids how to fish or just having a good time spending the day around a body of water with them, there is so much to see and talk about especially with kids sitting at the end of a fishing pole waiting for a tug on the line.

One time I got myself into a little trouble with Cindy, we had sort of a dry spell when it comes to actually catching any fish, we had been to the park that was on the outskirts of town with her Dad while they were visiting us with no results, we had gone back again after her parents left and had no luck either, we had even been to visit them in California and her Dad and I took the kids up into the mountains for a fishing trip with no results, OK my pride is getting wounded a bit here because my Great Fishing Stories I have been telling these kids are not showing any promise of being true, heck I couldn’t even catch a fish anywhere it seemed.

We got back home and the kids wanted to go fishing, so Cindy and I loaded up all the fishing poles, ice chests, snacks, drinks, and everything needed for a good fishing trip heck I even stopped and bought a couple tubs of fishing worms, one red worms and one night crawlers and the boys were now excited that we were going to catch them today because of the impressive bait we had, we got to the pond and got ourselves set up, Cindy was in charge of the snacks and drinks and I was in charge of baiting hooks, Tim and Randy both had their new stringers already tied off so they could add the days catch to them, a couple hours later and still not a bite, Tim was off chasing the ducks and had me watching his line, Randy went to help and I was watching his line also, OK my pride is wounded now here I am sitting here watching the boys chase ducks while I am waiting for something to happen in the fishing department.

You know how you kind of stretch the truth and tell stories to kids to make them laugh, well I always liked getting a grin from the kids so here is where I got myself into a little trouble this day, the boys made their way back to see if they had caught anything while they were off playing, I told them nothing had happened so the next thing they wanted to do was change bait since these worms had been on for a while, they asked why the nice worms we were using were not working and I told them I thought the problem was that the worms were too cold, you could see both boys thinking, Randy says really do you think that is the problem, I said that is probably it because a good fisherman keeps his worms in his mouth to keep them warm and if they are warm then you catch fish, they kind of laughed and I baited the hooks and got their lines thrown back in.

Next thing I know here comes Cindy, mad as a wet hen so to say and while she is scolding me between the gags I am trying to figure out what is going on, standing behind her is both boys with dirt around their mouths and I see a night crawler hanging out of Randy’s mouth, I about died laughing right there which didn’t help my case any, the only thing that did was the boys actually started catching fish on the next cast and my fishing pride was restored, along with a good story the boys and I still laugh about today.

  3. OMG, Jimmy....that was HILARIOUS!!!!

This is one of those stories that I could see on a sitcom; where people would think, "Oh...that could NEVER happen!" And yet, it DID! Which proves my point, the BEST stories are from real life!

I wish you got a picture of that worm hanging out of Randy's mouth.

Thanks for sharing, my friend! Thoroughly enjoyed it!

    Have a great day!

  8. Hey Ron,

I think real life has more humor than what the sit coms show also, I do enjoy life a whole lot more.

I know I have pictures of the trip but don't think there ever was one of the actual worm in mouth, was a little busy laughing at that time. Ha Ha

  11. That's hilarious! I can't believe they did that. We told ours that you have to spit on your warm and you have to kiss each fish you catch. I have some funny pictures of "fish kisses". We go fishing alot. Oddly enough, my prissy daughter is the best fisherman of the bunch. She ALWAYS catches the most. Must be some good spit.

  13. I like fishing too...but the worm thing is something i always struggled with. Have you been to Yosemite? There is great fishing there. I bet you would love it. I leave the fishing and hunting for Tim and sam....The only thing I fish for now are great buys at the store!!!

  14. Hey Susie,

Never been to Yosemite myself, I do have a good bit of tackle and a couple rods that need to be taken out for a trip, it's been a while since I have been and hope to do it again before long.

Fishing for great buys is something Cindy does well too:)

  18. Suzicate,

It is something the kids believe when you don't realize it, but I suppose it will be even funnier when they are telling their kids the same things.

Definately memories we will keep and pass down

  22. LMAO with tears in my eyes!

Hubby used to carry his retractable pole in the truck so that a opportunity doesn't get passed up. It's not like the old days when you could just fish anywhere. He got a warning by the fish and game warden.

  23. Oh for the old days Heather,

I always loved just jumping out and fishing whenever you had the chance, guess those are memories now---kind of like keeping the worms warm Ha Ha
