New And Amazing

What is the last thing you saw that was so silly you had to laugh out loud, something you have seen many times but just noticed a detail that struck your funny bone.

TV commercials crack me up; I watch the ones pushing the latest and greatest drug, and just as I begin to think this drug may work, comes the disclaimer that makes you think the condition is better than the cure.

It’s pretty bad to have a depression medication with possible side effects that include thoughts of suicide, now that is depressing for sure. How about a stop smoking aide that is widely used to help people kick a habit that is killing them, some of the side effects are bad dreams and possible suicidal thoughts.

Sad to think stopping a habit that is killing you, includes being offered a drug that may make you want to kill yourself.

How about all the weight loss commercials, the ones with the celebrities who lost like a million pounds in a week, and ate all the food they wanted, now I’m no genius but I feel a personal trainer was most likely involved, and the reason they ate all the food they wanted is because they were working harder than Richard Simmons sweating to the oldies.

The disclaimer states something like, results not typical and you should not expect these results, now if I am not supposed to expect these results then why are you teasing me with them.

Now for the one that really makes me laugh and I don’t expect the results shown in the commercial, the Nationwide Toyota Sales Event, the one where the couple is discussing the right time to buy a car, when they are suddenly slid right into a dealership.

Next thing you know they are in their new car, the new car slides sideways right out of the dealership and into their driveway, the proud owners exit their car and at the bottom of the screen you will notice, if you look real close, “Vehicle movement simulated, do not attempt”

I wonder how many people are sitting in their driveways looking for the slide sideways option, or how many tried to slide right into the dealership to get one of these new and amazing cars, or how many actually slid sideways out of the lot after signing the contract.

I think to myself how handy this option would be when trying to park in a tight space, I think how cool it would be to change lanes on the freeway, and I smile when I think how many times I watched this commercial and never really thought about any of this, until I saw the disclaimer, yes I laughed out loud at this one.

What made you laugh recently?

  1. Those Cialis commercials make me laugh. If the idea is to promote boinking among mature people, why are they in separate bathtubs? Shoudn't they be sharing the same tub?

    1. Hey Stephen, I laugh at this one also, I am sure there are such places but I can't recall ever seeing side by side tubs other than that commercial.

Like you I would think the product would want the couple in the same tub.

  2. this makes me laugh, and I needed that today. I always shake my head and chuckle a little at the drug reactions that include death. How is death an acceptable side effect of anything??

    1. True Joanne, I would shy away from any product with death as a possible side effect, you have to laugh at the irony of that.

  3. Jimmy, I think you are funny, but rarely think commercials are funny. How about those drugs to help men get it up and then it tells you to seek medical attention if it stays up too long. I can't help wondering how often that happens.

    1. Ms. A, For the most part commercials treat us as if we are so idiotic that we can't understand what they are selling, without having to explain it to us thoroughly in a disclaimer.

Seek medical attention if it works too well, I just imagine this side effect is one that gets no complaints.

  4. Yes, I fancy a car that slides sideways. I can just imagine the envious looks from the neighbours ...grins. Commercials are totally daft, I wonder products ever get sold. Thanks for the giggle today, Jimmy.

    1. You are very welcome Valerie, I suppose commercials are supposed to be fun while selling a product, what about those in which you can hardly figure out what the product is.

Actually, I think that would be very cool! Kinda reminds me of something you would see in the cartoon, The Jetsons!

I don't watch TV anymore, so I'm totally lost when it comes to recent commercials. However, I did see one when I was visiting my family in Florida back in July. It was for an insurance company I think, and it had to do with a possum lying on the ground; assuming that it was dead, but only 'playing possum.' It was HILARIOUS!

    Have a great day, buddy!

    1. Hey Ron, Yes it does sound like a good Jetsons episode, I bet George had no problem parking.

Oh Lordy I about died laughing first time I saw the possum commercial:
Dad I think hes dead, nope just playing possum Ha Ha Geico if I am not mistaken, I still laugh when it comes on :^)

    1. Angelia, it seems there are a bunch of the talking baby commercials, you cant go wrong with a talking baby, I just wonder how they learned to talk so good and at such a young age :)

  7. We watch QVC ads at nights and we just love them! Fancy turning up at a friends house with one of those bags that turn into a bed...that is taking hospitality to the limit!
Meanwhile, we start to watch the adverts and are interrupted by a movie!
Gosh, sometimes it is enough to make your head spin....hummm, that doesn't sound too good, does it?

I wonder who passes all these ads as fit to view?

    1. Hi Megan, It seems that so many ads are running during the breaks that it is easy to forget what you were actually watching, maybe that is the reason for the bed in a bag :^)

I am sure someone has to determine which are fit to air, some would not pass if it were up to me.

  8. The drug ads crack me up too. The side effects are exactly the same for every drug! Talk about covering your ass!

I also wonder the purpose of the drug ads. I can't imagine going to my doctor and saying I want to start taking some name brand drug just because of an ad!

    1. Good to see you Bijoux, I would think if all the side effects are the same then the formula for all the drugs need to be tweeked for the better, most likely its not actually the side effect its all about covering the rear.

Hey Doc I saw this one on TV don't you think I may have something we can use it for, I hear it lasts four hours Ha Ha

      I can't imagine.

  9. One word: Fiat commercials.

    Well, that was two words.

    1. Hey Pixel Peeper, I meant to tell you before, Welcome to our little family.

I think those Fiat commercials really started flying about Super Bowl time didn't they?

It sure looks like a small car for such a big production and cast of celebs pushing it.

  10. I also laugh when I hear these disclaimers. Then again, I usually laugh at the TV news folks trying to MAKE news instead of just reporting it.
I think that Toyota commercial just might take the cake though. How stupid do they think people are? Geez!

    1. Pat, The news seems to have turned more to entertaining than reporting, I agree with you 100% on this one, and if once isn't enough they completely repeat the whole newscast in the next hour.

Toyota is about to run this one in the ground in my opinion.
