On The Wrong Foot

I am not a picky person, I can go along with most anything, just don’t mess with my socks.

Cindy on the other hand is a grab and go type of person, if it’s time to go she grabs whatever looks good and out the door she goes, her side of the closet has hangers flip flopped in every direction from yanking clothes from them, with some actually lying on the floor.

My side is in order, with the pants all together, then my shirts, next are the tee shirts, yes I hang my tees, because it makes them easier to find, and all the empty hangers are moved together on the left so I don’t have to search for them once the laundry is done.

And speaking of laundry, when I do it all the jeans are washed together, the darks and the whites are separated, and yes everything gets folded and put away straight out of the dryer, I don’t do ironing so hanging my clothes straight out of the dryer is a must.

Cindy thinks Disposable Clothing would be the way to go, you pick your clothes out of a box and at the end of the day, rip them off and throw them into the recycle bin, no laundry and no putting clothes away, sounds easy but just how comfortable would disposable clothes actually be?

Comfort is a big thing to me, my jeans don’t have to look good as long as they are comfortable, they can be completely worn through with holes in the knee and crotch, but if they feel good I am wearing them, Cindy however has thrown out my crotch less jeans, calling them disposable.

When it comes to my feet I’ll have to admit I am definitely picky, I would wear new socks everyday if I could afford it, reason being is after you wear a sock it takes on the characteristics of that foot.

A worn pair of socks now becomes a left sock and a right sock, and if you get your socks on the wrong feet you can be miserable for the rest of the day, I spend a good deal of time matching my socks so when I take them out of the drawer there is a right and left sock.

Put your left foot in, take your left foot out, put your left foot in, and you shake it all about, this is not the Hokey Pokey, its me trying on two right footed socks.

Now I have to tear my sock drawer apart looking for a leftie.

Cindy enjoys when I do the Hokey Pokey early in the morning, I find myself cursing because she folded my socks, and I really think she separates all the left and right socks so she can fold them together incorrectly.

I had to start buying all the same sock, because if I had several different types and she mixed the brands along with the righties and lefties, I just know the world would come to an end.

And if the world came to an end, wouldn’t you at least want your feet to be comfortable, your Mom always told you to wear clean underwear, you know just in case there is an accident, but I am adding make sure your socks are on the right feet.

I wonder if disposable socks are an option?

  1. You had me right up until the whole left sock, right sock debacle. I can find no reason why any normal, intelligent man would think there is a difference...maybe you should buy a sharpie and mark each sock!

    1. Maybe a sharpie would be the way to go, I really remember this being a problem when I was a kid, I guess some things you never outgrow :)

  2. Oh my gosh, I never thought about this with socks that they could take on a shape of their own whether they go on the right or left foot. I'm thinking I must be ambidextrous with socks/feet because socks don't bother me which foot they go on. Only thing that bothers me about socks is when they don't all match up after the laundry is done and there is one lone one that you can't find the pair for no matter how far and wide you look for it.

I do have to think though getting socks all the same color could save so much time sorting them in the long run.

    enjoy tomorrow!

    1. Hi Betty, Yes getting all the same brand sure saves a lot of headaches when it comes to sorting laundry, we have her pile, my left sock pile, and right sock pile, then they get folded together, most times with an extra sock on her side Ha Ha

Have a Great Tomorrow also my friend

  3. Left and right socks? I often put my shoes on the wrong feet.

    1. You know Stephen, it may have started with the socks, if they are on the wrong foot then the shoes just may follow :)

  4. I'm the same way with my socks! The kids have this thing where they wear mismatched socks on purpose and it drives me up the wall. There's NO WAY I could do that, either!

    1. I get laughed at a lot from different people in the family, but if the socks are bothering me I'd just as soon take them off than be uncomfortable.

  5. Hi Jimmy. I'm like that with TIGHTS.... now how on earth can anyone go wrong with TIGHTS? I must ask hubby if he has a problem with his socks.

I'm like you with the wardrobe... neat, to a point. Everything on hangers, colours together, and yes, empty hangers put together. Hubs thinks I'm a pain in the ass when I try to reorganise his closet. We don't share... I couldn't bear that... grins.

    1. Hi Valerie, Cindy and I share a closet that is separated in the middle by a chest of drawers, I will hang her clothes when I do laundry, but if I had my way a lot that is in her side would be donated, I would sure be in trouble then so I just leave it be Ha Ha

  6. I am also picky about the filing system in my clothes closet. Shirts also need to be facing the correct direction.....to the left! However, though I do believe you about socks conforming to ones foot, I'd think after a wash and dry, they'd go back to a neutral shape.

    1. You would think so but when a sock is tight against my big toe and poking out on the other side I say it has conformed and on the wrong foot, it may be all in my head but I see it on my feet Ha Ha

  7. I must say, I have not noticed this right sock, left sock phenomenon. It's the holes that drive me batty. I can't figure how my blessed socks end up back in the drawer and not in the trash. :-)

    1. Yes if a sock has a hole in it, it is a goner, those never even make it to the laundry :)

  8. Jimmy, I was laughing my butt off while reading this post because I am the EXACT SAME WAY when it comes to my doing my laundry and my clothes!

" yes I hang my tees"

"speaking of laundry, when I do it all the jeans are washed together, the darks and the whites are separated, and yes everything gets folded and put away straight out of the dryer, I don’t do ironing so hanging my clothes straight out of the dryer is a must."

"Comfort is a big thing to me, my jeans don’t have to look good as long as they are comfortable, they can be completely worn through with holes in the knee and crotch, but if they feel good I am wearing them."

    Ditto to all three!

And you know, I never thought about socks taking on the characteristics of the feet, but you're right...they do! After I wash my socks, I turn them inside out of one another into a ball, so that they don't get lost and also so that I can just grab them in my drawer and pop them on my feet.

Please tell Cindy I like her idea about disposable clothing. I've thought the same thing, I kid you not!

    Great post, buddy!

    Sock it to ya!

    1. Hey Ron, I am glad you got a laugh out of this one, that was the main purpose, we have to laugh at the little things that bother us, very few people see this one as a problem, my Mom always did and I suppose I took it after her, I never realized until I was grown that we had the same phobia so to say when it comes to socks.

  9. OH man... after 40 years... I am TRYING to teach hubby to do the wash... yikes!! he has NEVER done it... I am a sorter like you...but the socks... I must admit if they look the same I put them together...he makes sure that I know they are not a pair... I think I have spoiled him much too long:)

    1. Hey Bev, That could be the problem here, I may be a bit spoiled Ha Ha

I have to agree with your Hubby, there are slight differences that make socks a correct pair, righties and lefties are only one :)

  10. My wife and I are very much like you and Cindy, although not quite as extreme. I hang things up straight from the dryer, too, so they will look decent without ironing. A friend of mine (a life-long bachelor for obvious reasons) is fond of saying, "All my clothes are wash-n-wear, whether the label says so or not." I sometimes wish I could have that attitude, but I just can't. It's not in my DNA.

    1. I can't stand to pile clothes up without hanging them, it sure saves time just to do it right then.

  11. ha! my husband organizes his drawers and closet and wears his shirts on a rotation basis. Me? thrown and stuffed in the drawer. We have learned to accept each other and not mess with each others system. I make my kids follow his system as long as they are in this house. I am the only one allowed to do whatever I want. They have all accepted this too. There are some perks to being a mom.

    1. Hi Annmarie, You definitely sound like Cindy, she is the only one allowed to do this, I do think you are right in that it must be within the "Mom Code" :)

  12. Wait. There's right and left socks? Damn. I have a degree in fashion and everything and I never knew!

Honestly, I'm lucky I make it out the door with all my clothes on. Inside out, backwards... it really doesn't matter. But showing up to drop the kids off at school without my pants... kind of frowned upon.

    1. Hi Juli, Yes they seem to frown on Moms who forget their pants at school Ha Ha, when this happens having your socks on the wrong feet is the least of your worries.

Those are those awful white things the Canadian tourists wear on their feet inside their sandals, right?

    1. Yes you are absolutely right, I have seen those worn inside sandals, I however would never do that :)
