Running in my boxers

Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction, I going to tell you one of our vacation stories, it is mostly true but one part is going to be completely false, a scenario with each of our kids, two are true and one is false, tell me which kids story is false.

Once when we were on vacation with the kids, we drove through the pouring rain after spending a day at Six Flags over Georgia, our destination was now Six Flags over Texas, we stopped for gas on the way, mostly because we needed gas but mainly because there was a terrible smell in the car that we couldn't find, everyone got out and we nearly unloaded the whole car searching for the source but found nothing, the kids had thrown out all the trash thinking something in that had to be the source, with this done we loaded up and continued our trip.

As I pulled out of the station the smell returned, I stopped the car and opened the back doors where the kids were sitting, I told them to check the bottoms of their shoes in case they had stepped in something, Cindy had bought water shoes for them before we left town and our trip to Six Flags in Atlanta had been spent mostly in the rain, so when Randy pulled off one shoe I was hit right in the face with that smell, you know the one where everyone gags.

I took his shoes and walked them straight to the trash can, when I got back to the car Randy was nearly crying, I thought he was upset because he was embarrassed, but come to find out he was so proud of those shoes they were the only ones he brought, this was about a week into the trip and needless to say the rain had only ripened them.

Randy rode barefooted all the way to Arlington, and before looking for a motel we made a pit stop at Wally World where Randy ended up with a good pair of Tennis shoes to wear and a funk free pair of water shoes to use at Six Flags.

We found a very nice motel directly across from the park, close enough to where you could see and hear a lot of the rides, Melissa our daughter was at that age where she knew everything and we knew nothing, she got excited about nothing we did, but just watching her actions I could see that she could hardly wait for us to get to Six Flags in the morning.

We finally got the kids settled in for the night which wasn't easy with the park being so close, I laid down next to Cindy and waited to hear the sounds of everyone sleeping, next thing I knew I saw a flash of light on the wall and heard the door open then close, it was about 5am and I looked to where the kids were sleeping and realized Melissa was gone.

I ran to the door and looked up and down the sidewalk, I caught a glimpse of Melissa turning the corner, I caught up with her just as she turned toward the park, I grabbed her arm and turned her back to me, there was a blank look on her face, she was sound asleep walking away from the motel.

I held on to her arm and guided her back toward our room, I was sure happy to see Cindy running in our direction because I didn't think it looked too good for a man to be walking a young girl towards a motel dressed only in his boxers, and her sound asleep.

We told Melissa what happened when she woke up later in the morning, she thought we were just being paranoid when she noticed a chair propped underneath the doorknob, yes I was paranoid mostly because she had no memory of what happened.

We had breakfast in the motel restaurant and headed across the street to Six Flags we had a great day with the kids, the sun shined and there was not a drop of rain all day long, Tim our youngest was always a Dallas Cowboys fan and there happened to be a shop selling Cowboys hats and shirts, Tim about went nuts and sprinted to get into line.

He had been saving his money, he knew we were going through Dallas and he wanted a hat from there, it took nearly forty-five minutes for him to get through line, and wouldn’t you know that Troy Aikman was right there signing merchandise for the fans, no wonder it was so busy, Tim spent thirty bucks for an autographed hat, met Troy Aikman and had now spent all of his money, but I tell you this kid was beaming.

Tim and Randy had been practicing this hat throwing trick where Tim would throw a hat spinning through the air and it would land on Randys head, they were actually pretty good at it and Randy yelled “hey let me see that” Tim grinned and sent the hat sailing, Randy stood patiently waiting for the hat to land when it missed the mark and landed perfectly on the head of a red headed girl walking just behind Randy.

She took the hat off and looked at it while Tim made his way to retrieve his hat, she instead just looked at him, said thanks, placed it back on her head and walked away, I couldn’t believe this was happening nor could I believe it when Tim ran up behind her and snatched the hat off of her head, she clocked him right in the eye just as a security guard arrived.

The security guard had witnessed the whole thing he told us, but he had only witnessed the part where Tim snatched the hat and got himself clocked by the red headed girl, forty-five minutes later we find ourselves escorted to the gate and asked to leave.

Now Tim has no hat, has no money, got beat up by a girl, and kicked out of Six Flags, he and Randy started laughing and high fived each other as we drove towards I-30, and yelled at the same time “Best Day Ever”

What do you think Randy, Melissa, or Tim whose story just may not be true?

  1. Oh, my, I raised the 'first batch' (4 kids) and it all sounds possible, I would have to guess Tim. You will tell us the answer, won't you? I personally know about chasing a child in the night half naked, so that rang true. Smelly shoes in the car - good grief, yes! Getting in a fight with some stranger, sadly, yes. All three happening in a 24 hr. period? I have the gray hair to prove it!

    1. Yes I will give the correct answer, thinking we could do something like this weekly for fun and post the blogs of those with the correct answer on the main page.

  2. I think it's Tim's; no way would he have left without that hat!!

    1. You never know though, we were escorted to the gate by security.......I'll let you know for sure.

  3. The hat story smells fishy to me. I could believe all but the girl punching him in the eye...I think he would have ducked. Either story being true would not surprise me. I hope the sleep walk story is true because your worry about "I didn't think it looked too good for a man to be walking a young girl towards a motel dressed only in his boxers, and her sound asleep." is too funny. My son is 40 and apparently he still walks in his sleep sometimes...creepy.

    1. True Joe but you know as well as I how quick those girls can get a shot in on you, and even when you least expect it.....I would definitely be worried if I saw a man in his boxers like that ha ha

      Correct answer later

  4. I'm just sitting here hyperventilating about the thought of anyone throwing a hat around. Maybe I'm a bit anal about my caps.

    1. Hey Joey, good to see you, I understand how you feel and by your statement I'll guess you are going with Tim's story also.

  5. I'm guessing the hat story as well, only because I would think a security guard would make the puncher leave the park, not the punchee!

    1. Hey Bijoux, everyone is bringing up excellent points on this story, either it is false or I left some details out, I love all of your answers.

  6. I want them all to be true for they are a hoot. Lost it at you in your boxers. I'm kind of leaning towards the hat. Can imagine a guy clocking your boy but not a girl. We look through our eyelashes and use guile.

    1. Hi Patti, great to have you join us, the kids actually grew up with a girl that was more rough and tumble than any of the boys, with that said I wouldn't put anything past a girl especially when she is looking through her eyelashes ha ha

True answer will be revealed later.

  7. Oh, my gosh, you are a great story teller, no matter if you're telling fiction or true stories. I'm voting for the hat being the made up story but my second choice would be the smelly shoe.

    1. Hello Jean, thank you so much for your compliment I am truly honored, the general consensus is leaning towards the hat so I guess that I will spill the beans.....tomorrow.

Glad you joined us today, hope to see you again soon, I did enjoy my visit to your blog.

  13. Remembering some of my childhood exploits, I say all three could have happened. If I have to pick one, it's going to be the story about the hat.
I'm catching up, and glad I started here instead of working my way back in time (blog post wise that is)
