Putting My Foot Down

Melissa our Daughter has finished the schooling part of her psychological strive toward her career goal, Psychology is an impressive field and we have joked with her since she started that it takes a good psycho to know one, and she fits the mold perfectly.

I always get that look from her when joking like this, like she is secretly psychoanalyzing me and keeping notes in the back of her mind for when it comes time to select a nursing home for me, I have a feeling the joke will be on me, especially when she answers a question of mine with “and how does that make you feel”

Now with this part of her schooling over, she is going to Texas for an internship at a psych facility for a year, I really hope she isn’t secretly looking into the future for me but this remains to be seen.

Yesterday we drove down to Pasadena and helped pack up her apartment, out of the goodness of her heart she will move into our home for a month before we take her to Texas, really her lease is up and her move in date there is a month away, and rather than sign a new lease she is going to live with us, I know who is going to be psycho before the month is over.

Packing up the apartment was relatively painless, after we got past the stacks of clothing, hangers, and shoes on the floor, that girl has more clothes than anyone I have ever known, I put my foot down and told her that she would be getting rid of some of this stuff, heck it looked like there was an accident between a department store and second hand store right there in her living room, she said those were the clothes she was saving as I nursed the foot I put down on a wayward high heel shoe.

An hour and a half later she had one dress laying on the floor, proudly stating this was her goodwill pile, another half hour and a t-shirt joined the pile, I looked for a clear spot on the floor and put my foot down again, and by the end of the day she ended up with a large bag to donate, with tears in her eyes she carried the bag and placed it by the door.

We carried out all the trash, stacked all the boxes for the movers to pick up, with the only task left to be final cleanup after the furniture and boxes are taken away, Melissa will attend to this part without us, I grabbed for the bag of clothes on my way out the door and Melissa stated that she would carry it down to donate, I am really proud that she let go of this bag of clothing.

But on the other hand, looking back I really think that bag was most likely deposited into a box marked clothing, and placed on top of the stack for the movers to pick up.

  1. First of all, a BIG congrats to your daughter, Melissa, for finishing the schooling part of her Psychology major. Way to go, Melissa!

And it's funny because at one point in my life I actually thought of being a psychologist myself, but then eventually realized I NEEDED a psychologist, not BE one - HA!

    Jimmy, this made me laugh...

" heck it looked like there was an accident between a department store and second hand store right there in her living room."

    Hilarious!

"But on the other hand, looking back I really think that bag was most likely deposited into a box marked clothing, and placed on top of the stack for the movers to pick up."

    Yup...I bet you're right!

    Have a super week, buddy!

    1. Hey Ron, Thank You so much, we are really proud of her, after this internship she will graduate with her doctorate in psychology and says we have to call her Doctor after that, I'm still proud but can't see me calling her Dr. Melissa as of yet :^)

  2. I'm keeping my mouth shut about all the "stuff" around here... I don't want you to put your foot down on me! (I've got clothes from junior high)(and I've saved nearly everything from my kids, too) My daughter has promised to toss it all, when I'm dead.

Congrats to Melissa! Now, when you come to Texas... where we gonna meet up?

    1. Lordy Ms. A, You should have seen the stuff we had accumulated before we moved out here, so I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree..right?

Looks like we have about a month to figure out the meet up spot, bet we can figure that one out easy :)

  3. I've just been sorting my wardrobe before coming on line to read your post. Most of my stuff was put back! Congratulations to Melissa on getting so far in the psychology field. You have to be a very special person to practice that.

    1. Amen to being a special person for this field, it takes a lot of determination to get there and much more to get rid of that stuff we keep putting back into our closets, Guilty myself :)

  4. I know how she feels! It's hard to give those up. We might wear them again, ya know? Big congrats to her and her accomplishment. Wow! I hope her internship goes well.

I was cracking up over your foot going down on a high heel. Haha!

    1. Angelia, You wouldn't believe how many of her shoes I have tripped over, and with her moving in for a month I am thinking of investing in a couple Ace bandages just in case Ha Ha

  5. My daughter once called from the parking lot at college. I drove there in the dark, found the car, and the sheriff was shining his flashlight around the interior.

Of course there was a broken window and blood on the seat, but the carnage in the back was familiar to me. The sheriff looked at the books and a ton of shoes and said "It's terrible how they break in and then wreck the insides of the cars."

I agreed, while happily realizing he thought the burglar had done it.

  6. I can relate to what you are saying, our daughter was cleaning out her car today, I walked out and took a look inside and turned away to walk back into the house..Crime Scene was the first thing that popped into my mind Ha Ha

  7. We have five adult kids. I so many memories (some good and some not so much) relating to college and/or their early life as adults.

  8. Isn't it funny the different personalities with each one, put them all in the same situation and you would have five different results, but with most at this age their cars and rooms resemble a crime scene :)
