Without Voter Approval

How many propositions, amendments, and or ballot measures are you facing in this upcoming election? It’s hard enough to decide which Presidential candidate is going to pull ahead at the last minute, and you have to decide if you want to keep current President Barack Obama in place or is it time for a new President in Governor Mitt Romney.

Do we have another choice? Yes but you all know that its going to be one of the above, my suggestion is think it through and make an informed decision, do you really want to hear Mr. Obama continue to blame the previous administration for everything in the world, or is it time for Gov. Romney, its our decision and voting is the only way we can make that choice.

What about everything else they have added to the ballots, we have many decisions to make, some will increase our taxes, fund our schools, keep our politicians in check, blow smoke up our rears, and hopefully change the way our governments are run for the better.

How about the proposition that is supposed to give money to our school systems and rehire teachers? Where is this money coming from? The proposition states that an increase in income taxes on the wealthiest people, and a temporary increase in sales taxes by one-quarter cent on the dollar is the answer.

This sounds like a plan until you read the fine print, money for schools and local public safety programs is followed by terms like “help close the state budget gap”, in my opinion the state approved a budget they cannot make work without raising taxes, this tax will fund the budget, and if this proposition fails the money will then come in the form of cuts to our education system.

Damned if you do and damned if you don’t, so read the fine print in your election guides, one thing I can see in the guide from California is we are over a barrel with our Governor, his promise was no new taxes without voter approval and he is keeping his word, I feel we have a gun held to our head so to say because if we don’t approve this increase, then our schools will suffer more funding cuts.

The schools aren’t really getting more money; it will not be taken away if we give the state a tax increase, so we have to shoot ourselves in the foot one way or the other, too bad we aren’t voting for Governor again, just my honest opinion.

The death penalty is making an appearance on the ballot also, lets all join hands and repeal the death penalty in California, if we repeal the death penalty the crime rate will go down they claim, all death row inmates sentences will be commuted to life without parole, and the state will save tens of millions of dollars each year.

This just doesn’t make sense to me, how can we save money by keeping all our death row inmates locked up until they die of old age as opposed to executing them, it’s not like most are not already outliving their death sentences, I know that I am going to get the old “Eye for an Eye vs. Thou shall not kill” debate but seriously. How are you saving money this way?

Should it really be about money, shouldn’t a person who is convicted of a Capitol Crime like Murder or Rape be held responsible for their actions as opposed to being given a law degree, cable TV, and a job as a telemarketer so they can keep in touch with the outside world.

I know there have been wrongly accused and convicted prisoners, but to save someone from paying for their crime, and supporting them for the rest of their lives at taxpayers expense is a crying shame, how is this saving anyone a dime when the cost of an execution would be much cheaper, Capitol Punishment in my opinion should be a deterrent to crime.

I know I could go on and on, but the point I really wanted to make for all of us, is to read and study everything before you vote on it, make sure the title of the proposals match what they are claiming to do, in my opinion most are doing just the opposite, most will raise your taxes and there is no free money out there anywhere, it all comes from your very own back pocket.

There is my Politics and other things we don’t like segment for this month, tune in next time for something non political, until then have you heard any statements or campaign promises that make absolutely no sense to you.

  1. As I shared in one of my previous comments to you about this election, it's going to be TOUGH choice because quite frankly, I don't like either one of them. However, a choice MUST be made.

    You're right....

"but the point I really wanted to make for all of us, is to read and study everything before you vote on it."

You brought up A LOT of great points on this post; giving me food for thought. So thank you!

    Great post, buddy!

    1. Hey Ron, I really wasn't going to do a political post but sometime they just develop, I was reading our voter information guide and really got ticked, the actual information goes so against what they are advertizing it to be.

We have to do our homework because relying on the media will only steer us toward their choice rather than ours. No matter what we believe we should be able to vote our choice.

Thank You Buddy I appreciate you.

  2. Prison sure isn't a crime deterrent. They have more rights than we do! Personally, I think a good sentence for a murderer would be to be killed in the exact same manner his victim was, but OH, NO... THAT'S CRUEL AND UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT! Honestly, I think that would be a better deterrent than anything. Yep, eye for an eye!

    1. I happen to agree with you Ms. A, if prison life is made to be hard then less would commit crimes and want to go back, a great deterrent is exactly as you described, and do it in a timely manner rather than so many years down the road.

Cruel and Unusual Punishment, people seem to forget that most murders were not done in a humane and peaceful manner, so why should we be kind to the offender.

  3. Well I'm Canadian...but we have alot of the same issues. I don't get to involved in politics...but I'm glad that I know WHO is ultimately in control of everything!!
Hubby loves watching your election process!! We will be in the USA in November...and he is excited to see the outcome. He follows it very closely!!
(By the way I do agree with you on the prison issue!!)

  4. Some states have a larger problem in raising taxes as there is the danger of people simply pulling out anddoing business in cheaper states. Raising taxes can decrease revenues, this is expecially true for the states.

The death penalty would cost less than incarceration except the cases stay in the courts forever and that is the expence. My personal opinion after many years of debating with my self is killing is just wrong no matter what and so I am against the death penalty. But I perfectly understand the other side of the argument.

    1. Hi Joe, Yes Sir I agree with you in that raising taxes decreases revenues, my problem is when they sell a bill of goods to justify a tax increase and never actually use the money for the purpose you thought it was intended, this is where we have to read the fine print and understand what they are actually saying.

This is the problem with the death penalty, it seems to always be tied up in appeals for so many years and this is where it gets expensive as you pointed out, if it is going to be effective it should be carried out right away.

I can see both sides of this issue, I think killing someone is wrong but also think the death penalty is a great deterrent to crime, I suppose we always have to look at any issue from both sides.

  5. I've already gotten into hot water several times this week expressing my political opinions, so I'm gonna wise up and not say anything.

    1. Hi Stephen, I debated with myself so hard before posting this one, I really don't like talking politics but sometimes cant help myself.

Political opinions is a good way to get into hot water, as for me I figure your opinion is as important to you as mine is to me, we don't have to agree, we just have to listen to one another, so no hot water here my Friend.

    1. Yes Joanne, " An uninformed voter is wasting their vote and costing us in more ways than one!" I think this is exactly what I was trying to say before I went the long way around :) I should have talked to you first.

  7. It's always about money. Always! I don't mind voting on issues because they are straight forward......usually you are either for or against a tax. However, politicians are really all the same, no matter their party. Lies, lies, lies.

    1. Hey Bijoux, As for politicians I have said before, no matter the party most are just two different arms on the same monster.

As far as voting on a tax I respect it more if they come at me straight forward, don't hide the true meaning in deceptive wording, this is what I was realizing while reading our voters guide--sigh

  8. Is there ever a candidate who doesn't blame the previous government/administration? Once they're in, their tongues run away with them and nothing is ever their fault. I wouldn't like to be in your position right now. Obama/Romney? Couldn't that guy called Mr Right have a go for a change?

    1. I'd vote for a Mr. Right in a heartbeat, sad thing is even if he is there the major two parties never nominate him, if when elected these politicians spent as much time attempting to run the country as they do bashing the previous administration, look how much better off we could be.

  9. Ooh, treading into dangerous waters here Jimmy! I have pretty strong political opinions, but I typically keep them off the blog. This year, I tend to go with Jay Leno's opinion: "If God wanted us to vote for a president, he'd give us candidates".
But yes, I'll vote and yes, I'll read up on the issues. Sometimes it's scary to look at a sampling of the public and realize that they all vote!

    1. Abby, I have tried so hard to keep it off the blog, but it appears I treaded right out there didn't I Ha Ha

I like the statement If God wanted us to vote he would give us a candidate :)

I'll just be glad when it's all said and done.

  10. I'm an informed voter, but I live in Texas, so no matter how I vote Romney is going to get Texas' electoral votes. Voter in NY or CA have already mailed in their electoral votes to Obama. Only those who live in a "battleground" state can make a difference, as they are wide open right now.

Yes, for local and state offices and referendums, your vote does count. Also, I think they should outlaw polls so that people won't be influenced by "who's the most popular right now." Don't jump on the bandwagon....make up your own mind!

    1. I sure hope the battleground states do a good job for us, you are right they will be the ones to decide.

As for the Polls I agree, it wouldn't hurt my feelings if all the polls were eliminated when it comes to elections, because folks do seem to vote according to them.

  11. You don't HAVE TO vote for Obama or Romney... Roseanne Barr is on the ballot.

    ;-p

I'm with Lowandslow on the polls - they should be forbidden for the day of the election and two days before that. Or more!

    1. Gary Johnson is also on the ballot, he did a good job as Governor in NM

I wonder how Roseanne got on the ballot anyway, that's scary Ha Ha

    1. Angelia, that is it in a nutshell, we really have to do our homework to separate the Truth from Lies, and sometimes even then we are not sure, Yes this one is going to be close.

  13. I don't like either of the two choices...BUT we have to chose the better of the two evils and hope for the best. I would take Romney over socialism.
In the bible God ordered many killings so in this case it is not per say "wrong".
There should be one trial. If found guilty beyond doubt, take the person out and put him in front of a firing squad and shoot him, end of story. Save millions.

    1. Yes Sir it has once again come down to choosing the lesser of two evils and we have to make the right choice, I agree with you 100%

The problem we have with Capital Punishment is once convicted and put onto death row we don't follow through, rather than go ahead with the execution we allow years and years of appeals, if we could eliminate this look at the money saved.
