No Apparent Reason

I walked so many miles, doing what I do best, reading water meters.

I went from meter box to meter box, lifting the lids and looking down at the meter, taking the readings and punching the numbers into the handheld device that creates your water bill, I walked to the end of the alleyway and turned to go into the next.

I repeated this action only stopping to dig the dirt out of my way with the shovel that was always present; it’s always nice to have a shovel at the ready when you need it.

Next thing I know the water is coming out of the ground and I am frantically digging to find the leak, a long hose attached to a pump is moving the gathering water out of my way.

Then I am back to walking down the alleyway once again, all the numbers are falling into place perfectly, but the alley seems to never end.

My legs are hurting so bad today and I am really tired.

Last night was a long night and today I feel like I actually made this journey, all of this makes about as much sense to me as it does to you.

I retired over ten years ago, so what brings on a dream like this?

Have you ever had a dream like this for no apparent reason, and feel the effects just like you had actually been there the night before?

    1. Maybe I should ask Cindy what her dreams were the night prior to when she wakes up mad at me for no apparent reason Ha Ha

  2. I once had a recurring dream that involved A LOT water coming into my apartment, almost like in flood. I kinda brushed it off because I couldn't figure out WHY I would dread something like this because I had just moved it. But what was really strange is that several months later a water pipe in the apartment above mine broke, which caused a flood in my own apartment! So perhaps the dream was precognagent of what was going to happen in the future?!

Btw, I went over an voted for you, Jimmy! Hope you win!!!!

    1. Hey Ron, I bet you are right in that you were sensing the energies of things to come with the flooding of your apartment, some folks are more in tune to these sort of things and I believe you are one of the people with this gift.

Thank You Buddy, I appreciate you.

  3. I've had a repeat dream for forty years. I'm back in college and it's time to present my portfolio to my art teacher for my final grade. In the dream I've blown off my assignments and have nothing to show in my portfolio. I'm sure to fail the class. Why I have this dream I'll never know. This never happened when I was in college.

    1. Hi Stephen, With the talent you have as an artist I wonder if this is simply you pushing yourself to stay on top of things and not allow yourself to fail at anything, or it could be just one of those crazy dreams with no explanation like mine, this is not the first time I have read meters all night, and that wasn't even my primary job.

    1. Hey Ms. A, Isn't it strange how clear some dreams are when others you can't remember to save your life.

  6. That would be an exhausting dream I think to be walking and checking meters like that (but great exercise I'm sure when you were employed like that before retirement). My recurring dreams as a youngster was trying to cross the street, at night, my legs barely moving and seeing a car approaching. Then I had the dreams where I had to go to the bathroom but couldn't find one in my dreams. But last week I had a dream where hubby and me were by some type of lake and then all of a sudden drove into the lake. I remember hitting the water thinking "how are we going to get the windows open to get out or I'm going to die" then thinking "nope this is a dream just wake up" and then I woke up. I never know what to make about dreams. Some people say they can interpret them. I just don't know. I do like those dreams where it is really good and then I wake up and sadly realize it was just a dream......

    1. I have also heard of people who can interpret dreams like you said, I am not sure myself as I think some just have no explanation.

The ones where you are either facing death or immediate harm always wake you with a start, I have heard that if you don't wake at that time you actually die, but I don't see how this theory is ever proved because no test subjects are here to give the test results.

  7. Much like the Chatterbox, I often dream iwas called back to college as my diploma was recinded. I need to Pass a final history test and I mever read the book. Then I wake up, the test part without the reading is not too far from reality.

    1. Hi Joe, It appears this is a common dream among people for some reason, going back to pass a test you are not prepared for, I can say that I too have taken a few tests with only preparing just before class time :)

    1. Hi Bijoux, Running late is a fear a lot of us have, and after 24 years it appears you are as late as I am behind on gathering my readings :^0

  10. Aha, you were a meter reader? It is strange to have dreams like that that make so much sense while we're dreaming.
Similarly, I dream of my high school days when I was a busgirl in a restaurant. I'm cleaning tables, trying to keep caught up, but never get there. What??

    1. Hey Abby, Yes I started as a meter reader and did that job for several years, I really enjoyed doing it too, I think you hit the nail on the head in your description of your dream, trying to catch up and never really getting there, that would fit in explaining mine also.

  11. I have dreams like that all the time. It's when I sleep walk and act out the dream that we really have a problem.

It's usually then that I know it's time for a new job.

    1. Hi Juli, I have never been one to sleepwalk, although the Daughter has done so, yes when you start acting your job out in your sleep shows either you really like it or need to get away from it.

  12. Over recent years, I rarely remember the detail of my dreams. I know I'm often naked in a public place - not a sight for the faint-hearted, I can assure you!
