Perfect In My Eyes

Being perfect is something everyone seems to strive for, although the word is often misunderstood, or misused.

A definition of perfection is “being entirely without fault or defect, accurate, exact, or correct in every detail”

Does this mean that you have to possess correct features and carry no scars before you are perfect? By this definition you can argue only the beautiful can be perfect?

I have a feeling my striking features, graying beard and worn out straw hat will keep me from being burdened with this title.

Another definition is “Lacking nothing essential to the whole; complete of its nature or kind” So when it applies to life you are perfect if you have everything, and need nothing else, thus making your life whole and complete.

Kind of like your Granddaddy, you know someone you just can’t buy anything for because he already has it, if there is someone you can’t find a gift for, does this mean they are perfect?

Hey Granddad I bought you this new “Thing-a-ma-jig”, it looks like something you can use, and I thought it would be perfect for you, Yes sonny it does, that’s why I have three of them out in my garage.

Well isn’t that just perfect!

And when things don’t go according to plan, why do we say, “Well isn’t that just perfect”, are we being sarcastic or is it that we are just confused.

Little Johnny fell down and broke his arm, “Well isn’t that just perfect” it must be a perfect break, because I don’t see this as a perfect situation. I suppose if you are going to break an arm you may as well do it with perfection.

According to the Bible perfection means being without sin. The Bible tells us that sin is being disobedient to God. Now looking at it from this angle we can be perfect as long as we obey God.

The Bible tells us that if we obey God and are without sin then we can be perfect, this doesn’t mention possessions but leads us to live life in a perfect manner, by doing good and exercising our faith.

What is a perfect life? Does perfection mean everything has to go your way, and you have to gain absolutely everything you reach for? Maybe so for some, but for me failure can also help you to become perfect, simply by teaching you a better way to do things.

There are many definitions of perfection, but to sum it up I am going to give you one thing I see as perfection.

Lets say there is a person who is beautiful and completely without sin, one that has done no wrong, and has everything in the world and needs absolutely nothing, but yet people are down on their knees and bending over backwards to give this person everything.

Would you consider this as being a Biblically Perfect person?

I say look into the eyes of a newborn child, especially from a Parents or Grandparents viewpoint and tell me that I didn’t just describe perfection.
Our Grandson Benjamin when he was a newborn

How would you describe perfection?

  2. To me, perfect means having one of everything necessary. No more. No less. For instance, I have one coat. My sister could never convince me to buy a second coat of another color. I've always said "If it's necessary, one will do".

My life, although (as you know) is far from perfect, it's perfect for me, as I require little and appreciate everything.

Those who require PERFECTION will never be content.

    1. "Those who require PERFECTION will never be content" Amen my Dear Friend, I agree in that life is perfect for a particular person as long as they have what they need and appreciate what they have.

  3. Jesus!

But love is blind, so we all see our children, grandchildren and spouses as perfect at one time or another. And that's a good thing!

    1. Hi Bijoux, Yes Jesus is the answer, but as you said Love is blind :) so while we are here our loved ones are perfect in our eyes.

I totally agree, Jimmy! I have learned more from failure because as long as I learned something...it's not failure.

"I say look into the eyes of a newborn child, especially from a Parents or Grandparents viewpoint and tell me that I didn’t just describe perfection."

Amen! And that's why it touches my heart so deeply to be in the presence of a newborn.

For me, perfection is contentment for what is.

    Excellent post, buddy!

    1. Hey Ron, We both have been through hard times and as we have talked in the past it's these hard knocks that shaped who we are.

Unconditional love from a little one is hard to beat, and being happy with what you are is what makes life perfect.

Contentment for what is, I like what you said there Buddy!

  5. I think your idea of looking into a newborns eyes is about as close as I could get to a definition of perfection. Before the world and time has the opportunity to taint them.

    1. Hey Ms. A, This is the first thing that came to my mind when I saw this topic, looking into a babies eyes gives you a feeling I can't describe..perfection.

  6. Biblically perfect can also mean mature. This had a great explanation of the word perfect as written in the Bible. http://www.crivoice.org/perfect.html

perfect to me is Jesus; lived a perfect life here on earth without sin and he is holy, set apart

mankind can't be perfect, we are flawed of course, but we can keep working on attaining qualities like Jesus as we continue to walk in our faith with him, assuming we have a faith in him

a baby made in the image of God and knit together in their mother's womb by God does come pretty close to perfect I do believe

    Benjamin was a beautiful baby!

    1. Thank You Betty, He was indeed a beautiful baby and still a good looking kid if I say so myself :)

I agree a baby is as close to perfect as we will see here on earth.

Walking in faith only works as long as we have faith in Him, you made an excellent point there my friend.

  7. I would agree...a newborn baby is the closest to perfect that we'll ever see, until the Second Coming of Christ.

  8. I would describe perfection as the look in your eyes as you gaze at your grandson. You are seeing and experiencing perfection...a perfect moment. I doubt anything else can be so perfect.

  11. I have never tried to analyse perfection before, but agree with you that a newborn child is perfect. In that regard it's a pity babies can't stay babies forever before the hard world gets to them. One thing I am sure of.... I will stop and think before I use the word perfect again.

    1. Hi Valerie, Yes babies are perfect and then they grow up and become carbon copies of us Ha Ha The word perfect is an easy one to use but yet a difficult one to figure out, keeps us thinking I suppose :)

  12. There is a difference between "perfection" and "perfect for me". :) My perfect is always slightly flawed. I prefer things with dimension and "texture". I want my perfect to be a little off... just like me.

    1. Hi Angie, I like your view on this in that perfect for you can be a little off, I have been accused in the past of being a perfectionist when in fact I don't see the end result as perfect, a little off works, I think I will now call a little off my new perfect with your blessing :)

    1. Hi Youngman, I think we all struggle with this one, I have written several that sounded good while typing them out then ended up hitting delete and starting over.

I think we write better when we just put down our thoughts, most of the things I have liked in the end were the ones that I spent the least amount of time on, not worrying about perfection I suppose.

      Thank You Sir

  20. Youngman made a good point. My writing gets terribly bogged down, too, because I tend to chase after perfection like a brain-challenged mule chasing after a carrot on a stick. Funny that I'm so demanding of myself about writing, though, because with life in general, I'm easy-going and content. In its own way, contentment with one's lot in life is in itself a sort of perfection, isn't it? Accepting and appreciating one's reality without coveting that which someone else has is a sure road to inner peace ... which is kinda my definition of attainable perfection. And of course, the wee ones are truly perfect and pure. Your grandson is, indeed, perfect. (And adorable.) But ya know what? Our grandchildren (and our pets) think WE'RE perfect. Superheroes, by golly! Ah, but if only we could live up to their images of us, huh? Great post. (As always.)

    1. Hi Susan, Good to see you back my Dear Friend, "Accepting and appreciating one's reality without coveting that which someone else has is a sure road to inner peace" I agree with you, if we all could do this I know that most would find attainable perfection in their lives.

Yes we are Superheroes in the eyes of the little one and if we could live up to their images of us wouldn't that be a perfect thing.
