That Was All I Had To Say

I have mentioned before how I relate song lyrics to life, I think that’s the idea when most people write a song isn’t it? Lynyrd Skynyrd wrote a lot that pointed right at society and life in general and I could talk for hours there but today lets look at Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead, Touch Of Grey is a catchy tune and the words don’t make much sense to most but I like this song really well:

It must be getting early Clocks are running late
Paint by numbers morning sky Looks so phony
Dawn is breaking everywhere Light a candle, curse the glare
Draw the curtains, I don't care 'Cause it's alright

Here is the first verse, you just gotta love where we are going, it’s already morning and you just don’t feel like getting up quite yet, Must be getting early…well draw the curtains and go back to sleep but you have to care whether you want to or not because that morning sky is telling you to get up and get your day started.

I see you got your list out Say your piece and get out
Yes I got the gist of it But it's alright
Sorry that you feel that way The only thing there is to say
Every silver lining's got a Touch of grey

You inevitably run into someone with a problem, the child who just remembered that a homework project is due this morning, the guy trying to get around you on the freeway or the one yelling hold the door for the elevator, maybe even the boss who just knows that you were the one who caused his long list of problems this morning, Sorry that you feel that way, don’t hide your feelings tell me how you really feel.

I know the rent is in arrears The dog has not been fed in years
It's even worse than it appears But it's alright
Cows are giving kerosene The kid can't read at seventeen
The words he knows are all obscene But it's alright

Finances are always there to give us problems, we have all been there and will be there again, heck most of us just may be there right now, it’s even worse than it appears and we always see the worst of things when money is tight, the kids are actually smarter than we give them credit for, I really think most kids have their brains removed when they hit their teens only to be returned to them at a later date.

The shoe is on the hand it fits There's really nothing much to it
Whistle through your teeth and split 'Cause it's alright
Oh well a touch of grey Kind of suits you anyway
That was all I had to say And it's alright

The shoe is on the hand it fits, the end result here is life is what it is and no matter how you live it this life is yours, we all have schedules and commitments, kids who are not doing exactly what they should be when they should, and living paycheck to paycheck just makes us appreciate the things we finally get around to paying off when we finally pay them off. We all end up with a touch of grey heck I am gaining more than a touch, but you have to appreciate what you have and take care of your own, life is what it is and a lot of things can’t be changed because it is not up to you to change it, so enjoy life and sing a silly song every once in a while because “it’s alright” and amongst those lyrics that just make no sense just may be a lesson. That was all I had to say because life in general really is alright.

I so enjoyed how you said this....

"life is what it is and a lot of things can’t be changed because it is not up to you to change it, so enjoy life and sing a silly song every once in a while because “it’s alright” "

  6. Morning Joe,

I truly think that, some of us get our brains back a little later than others but eventually we do get em back Ha Ha.

I liked that song first time I heard it.

  8. Hello Ron,

Yes Sir music has a way to reach deep inside you, and we are a lot better off when we stop trying to change the stuff we can't, but that is a hard one to figure.

    Glad you enjoyed it Buddy.
