What Would Have Been?

What would have been? I have mentioned numerous times that we need not worry about things we cannot change and furthermore we can’t change the way people feel about us because that is something totally up to that person and not us.

I look back on situations and think What if I had done this differently would things be better now? And what if I had taken a different road would these people still be in my life? See this type of thinking is something we all do at times and in my opinion there is nothing wrong with this type of thinking as long as you don’t let it consume you.

What ifs are nothing more than that, just a what if, there is nothing we can do about decisions we made long ago and if we had made different decisions then where would we be right now, had we made a different choice back then would we be without someone we hold dear today? And if we had a chance to do it all over again how many of us would make exactly the same decision we made back then?

My point here is that we all seem to judge ourselves so to say and wish we had done it different when in reality we actually did it the way we were supposed to back then because we are right where we are supposed to be right now, whether we realize it or not.

Enjoy what you have and look forward to what is coming in your future, we don’t always know what is coming and that is just a part of living life, so slow down and live the life you have right now because as good as it is, it’s only going to be better each day you are living it.

  2. This reminds me of my What if blog and I think of course I agree with what you say. It is what is and it was what it was....look ahead not back.

  5. Interesting post.. sometimes we do waste time thinking "what ifs" instead of trying to overcome the unfavorable outcome of our earlier decisions.

  6. Great post. You inspire me to think about things like this, and maybe even do a related post.
What might have been MIGHT have been better if I had made different decisions, but it might have been worse too. I am happy with what I have now.

  7. Thanks for the gentle reminder to be happy with what we have. You're so right not to dwell in the past. It's okay to think about but then move on. Don't waste any precious moments wishing your life could have been different. If you want it to be different then you have to make it different.

    Always a pleasure Jimmy!

  8. Awesome post, Jimmy!

And I totally agree with you.......

"when in reality we actually did it the way we were supposed to back then because we are right where we are supposed to be right now, whether we realize it or not."

I honestly believe that every choice is the choice that I was suppose to make. Because with every choice, there is a lesson. Therefore, if I embrace the lesson, I have grown. And that's all that matters.

Thank you for reminding me, my friend!

  9. You know, this is starting to sink in as I get older. If we could all just learn to be at peace with who we are and our role in life. Great post, Jimmy!

Susie, My dear friend it does sound a lot like that post, not the first time we have thought alike :)

Hello Ms. A, Just think Friends like you help me keep that positive attitude, so maybe you have rubbed of on me a bit so to say.

  11. Good Morning Joe, You are so right, things could have been a whole lot worse which makes me more glad of where I am now. I look forward to reading your view of this.

Thank You Peg, Yes Mam if you want your life to be different then you have to take steps to make it different rather than wishing for things to have been different, wise words there my Friend.

Hey Ron, I like what you said here “with every choice, there is a lesson. Therefore, if I embrace the lesson, I have grown. And that's all that matters.” Thank you for sharing that thought with me Buddy.

Thank You Betty, I think we come to realize this as we get older, to be happy in life you have to be at peace with yourself.

  12. Funny me and my sister was just talking about this subject.

"If" she had stopped dating the guy mom and dad hated, then she wouldn't have my precious niece Boo. And "If" she had not had Boo, then maybe she would have never meet her hubby at the church she had recently started going to so she could be a good example for her daughter.

Funny how one thing leads to another. I think it is a shame to want to change the events of who you are.

  13. Thanks Jimmy. Such a wonderful reminder. After some hard times in my life (which aren't as bad as some people), my eyes were opened to joy and I do my best to never forget that wonderous feeling of LIVING.

  14. Hey Heather, One thing definitely leads to another and if we had the power to go back and change our course so to say as you pointed out look at what we would be deleting from our lives, not worth it in my opinion :^)

You showed a perfect example of how this works, Thank You

Good Morning Angelia, It’s funny how hard we try to live only to look back and see what we have missed or what we could have done differently rather than enjoying where we are right now, it’s much better to enjoy where The Good Lord has you right now rather than to wish to be elsewhere.

  15. It took a lot of work for me to get to that point, but I'm finally there... I can't change anything that happened to me, or that I did in my life, so coming to terms with it all was the only option... It's the right option!
    good post Jimmy!

  16. That's a lot of making peace with yourself Pat, as you said "coming to terms with it all was the only option... It's the right option!" coming to terms and accepting that what is done, "is done" will help us to enjoy where we are now.

    Thank You Sir, excellent point.

  19. What's that saying "no use crying over spilled milk"? Just gotta keep on going and make the best possible choices for the future. Sometimes, people spend too much time worrying about the shoulda's instead of living for today.

  20. True statement SuziCate, "Sometimes, people spend too much time worrying about the shoulda's instead of living for today" some are too busy looking back to see what's ahead or even right under their feet.
