All Tied Up

Picking up from my last post we were in the air headed for Salt Lake City, Utah for a short layover and to change planes, everything has been good so far, we were given cookies with the name of the airline on them and they tasted good, Cindy even got a “real Coke” so that made everything a little bit better.

When we landed in Salt Lake City our son Tim met us at the airport, he had a 2 hour layover and was catching the same plane that we were to Great Falls, Montana, it was funny that we had seats A & B in row three and Tim ended up right across the aisle in seat C, this is where the fun began, because Tim does like messing with his Mom.
our son Tim sitting on an airplane, across the aisle from my wife Cindy
Cindy donned her rubber gloves and was wiping down her tray table, I decided to make a joke with her when I lowered mine, I crossed my arms over the top of the tray, and laid my head on my arms pretending to take a nap, this was not really a smart move because after a good smack I got the lecture on how she didn’t want to hear anything if I came down sick.

Tim was laughing at me as she wiped down my tray, and not to be outdone before she got to his tray with the Clorox wipes, he wiped down his tray with both of his bare hands then pretended to lick his palms, Cindy just stared at him speechless. The attention was now off of me napping on my tray, I really don’t want to tell her I have a scratchy throat now.

Cindy had no problems on this flight other than sitting between Tim and I, Tim completely entertained us, and the trip into Great Falls was uneventful after Tim’s lecture was over, and yes she did reach across the aisle and give him a good smack too.

The next morning is when the big event was to take place, the wedding was scheduled for 10am and Cindy was in charge of getting the boys ready, Randy (the groom), Tim (the best man), and Casey (the Groomsman, also like one of our own sons), and of course me the one helping her keep these three boys corralled.

The colors for the wedding were selected by Dawn, and a special color necktie was ordered for the boys (looked like a purple tie to me), the three boys had been fitted for their shirts and vests, and they were allowed to wear jeans and boots, now it was time to get them dressed, it all went well until Randy walked into the kitchen and asked “Has anyone seen my tie?”

I had my tie hanging on the back of this chair; did any of you move it? Randy asked. No one had seen the tie, Casey and Tim had their ties ready to put on but Randy’s had vanished, "Here wear my tie, I don't want to wear one anyway" Casey offered, the house was instantaneously torn apart, Dawn was called and the last place she had seen Randy’s tie was on the back of the chair.

Now Randy is mad, “Dawn had to move that tie, she was so worried about it, and she had to be the one that moved it!” Randy is getting worked up now; Casey comes up with a solution, "Randy can wear my tie and I will go without one" or Casey can wear one that is close to the color if we can find one, Cindy decided.

Tim is out the door in a flash looking for a tie, it is less than two hours from the start of the wedding, Tim is on the phone shouting tie colors he has found to Cindy, the closest he has found was a purple and gray striped tie at Wally World of all places, Casey was selected to wear the Wally World tie and the call from Tim is disconnected.
our son Randy with a purple necktie draped around his neck
Randy is completely dressed except for his tie, Casey removes his tie and hands it to Randy, the switch is made and Randy heads to his room to tie his tie, when we hear, Mom!!

What in the world is happening now? “Mom guess what I found?” he shouts, OK Randy where was it? “In the drawer I opened to get my tie clasp” Who put it in the drawer Son?

After a long pause Randy said “We will just say Dawn did it”

Now Cindy is on the phone trying to catch Tim before he buys the Wally World tie, "if Tim has already bought the tie I guess Jimmy can wear it" Cindy says, and as they are ringing it up Tim answers his phone and gets the message, just in the nick of time, Whew I’m sure glad too because I don’t think a purple and grey striped tie would have matched my shirt.

Tim walks in the front door just as Randy comes down the hall with his tie hanging around his neck, "Tim!, what are you doing! why aren't you dressed, it's almost time to go" Tim shouts back "I've been kind of tied up at Wally World, trying to find you a tie"

After Tim gets dressed he takes time to re tie Randy's tie, and make sure his brother looks his best, as we head out the door, Casey grumbles "I can't believe Randy found his tie, I was this close to not wearing one."

I forgot to mention that Tim also had to re tie Casey's tie.

  1. I'm glad you have fun on the last leg of your trip and Cindy had your area on the plane very sanitary. I hat touching anything on a plane. Cruise ships are even worse.

Love the tie part. All that fuss over a purple tie.

Have a fabulous day and weekend. ☺

    1. Good morning Sandee, Cindy definitely cleans our immediate area each time we board a plane, I don't think I would ever get her on a cruise ship.

The trip was really good, it's been two years since we've seen Tim so that was really a blessing to have him messing with his Mom once again.

  2. Poor Cindy, she gets it from all sides, doesn't she?
It's a good thing that's all that was potentially a problem with the wedding. Sure hope you all had a great time!

  3. You are looking for a karma smack messing with your wife's germ issue.

One more reason why I hate ties.

    1. Hey Joe, you are right, but man it's fun to just do it once in a while, makes the obvious smack that is coming worth it.

I got out of wearing a tie all together, not much a fan of ties either.

  4. And they HAD to wear a tie with boots and jeans? Man, they were all tied up in knots over that one weren't they? Sorry about the scratchy throat.

  7. I can't remember the last time I wore a tie. Our son is getting married in October and I hope I can remember how to tie a knot.

    1. Hey Stephen, I don't think I could tie one either, everyone was lucky Tim was there because he definitely tied more than one for others.

Maybe by October you can convince them to let you go tieless.

  8. A boy is never too old to have fun with his mama, and he's also never too old for her to whop him upside the head. :)

It sounds like you all had a blast.

  9. Everyone knows lost things are in the last place you look, you could saved a lot of time and stress if you guys had looked in the drawer first. LOL Every wedding has to have a hitch so you'll have a good story to tell afterward. Tie-gate is your son's.

    1. Hello Jean, Tie-gate I like that ha ha, if Randy had only remembered stashing his tie in the drawer with his tie clasps, he never did admit it though just grins about it.

  10. You know, even if he had needed to buy that tie, Walmart would have given him a refund after he wore it.

I had a friend who was an insurance adjuster, back in the days before cell phones were a thing. When he traveled to another town, and forgot his camera, he bought one at Walmart, took his pictures, took out his film (that's how long ago it was!) and returned the camera for his money back.

    1. Hey Val, they are pretty good about taking returns, I guess the worst thing would be him ending up with a gift card which he would use anyways.

Your friend had that camera deal figured out, I guess it wouldn't have worked too well if he went in and asked to borrow one ;)

I'm guessing the day just got better from then on.

    1. Hello River, Oh yes the relationship between brothers is something else, it's like they can pick on one another but no one else had better do it.

It really was a good day.

  12. This story will be retold many times through the coming years. Thank goodness it all ended well and that there are still men who can knot ties. Looking forward to reading more.

    1. Hi Valerie, you know that is one thing I noticed, there were very few of the men who could actually tie one, I could do it but it has been so long since I wore one I know my knot wouldn't have been as nice as Tim's.

I'll have a few pictures for everyone to see on Monday.

  13. My brother and I had a lot of fun with my mother too. I workforce the phone company many years and during part of that stint, I had to wear a tie each day. I've worn them a few times since then but I really don't miss wearing the daily.

    1. Hey Rick, I love to watch the boys react with their Mom like they do, Cindy acts like it's a bother at times but we all know she wouldn't want it any other way.

The only time I had to wear a tie daily was in high school when I worked at a grocery store, I'm not sure they even do that now.

  14. Sure hope that scratchy throat goes away. A cold is hard to hide:)) You all are too funny.
Every wedding has some crisis--luckily this one resolved itself. Interesting though how quickly Randy threw Dawn under the bus. Does she read your blog?

    1. Hey Patti, we have a good time no matter what we have going on, I'm not sure if she reads it or not, but Randy throwing her under the bus when it was actually him, I think Tim let that cat out of the bag already ha ha

  15. It wouldn't be a wedding if there wasn't last minute chaos, right?
I was cracking up about you and time and the germs on the plane.

    1. Hi Abby, I think a small bit of chaos is typical for any wedding, just wouldn't be the same without it.

This wasn't the first time Tim and I have gotten into trouble together ha ha

I would hate the stress around planning a wedding; that's why I got married in Vegas.

    1. Randy and Dawn flew out to see us last year and had a layover in Vegas, we did suggest a quick wedding while they were there.

Seriously there had to be a lot of stress involved in pulling one like this off.
