Jesus or the Easter Bunny

For a quick update, approximately six weeks after my bypass surgery everything is going well, the incisions are healing and I am getting along just fine, still under the no lifting over five pounds restriction but that is to be expected.

Easter Sunday is an important day for Christians. This is the day of the ressurection of Christ. We all were taught this growing up and it is an important part of our lives, it brings us the promise of new hope and joy.

The celebration of Easter is a blessed event shared with friends and family, we share meals, fellowship, and for some one of the few days when you actually go to church to hear the lessons that teach us that Jesus Christ has risen.

Now for the flip side we bring in the Easter Bunny, he brings colored eggs, chocolate, and smiles to the faces of children everywhere, how many of us prepare for and look forward to the annual Easter egg hunt with the kids? and how many stuff those baskets to overflowing just for the smile on the face of someone you love.

A lot of homes do not allow the fantasy of the Easter Bunny for fear it will overshadow the teachings of Christ, and others forget the ressurection because they may deem the lessons too deep and or boring for the kids, I say why can't we have both?

Remember the story of Jesus by celebrating Easter in the manner you choose, but at the same time make it fun for the kids with a little fantasy thrown into the mix, I just bet that the little ones will retain more than you think about the story of Jesus when they are having fun.

It should never be a choice between Jesus and the Easter Bunny, this is not a difficult choice for any of us really, I just think there is room for a little bit of fun to go along with the teachings that we all need to hear.

I know my eyes lit up when I saw my Easter basket this morning, Happy Easter to you all.

Did you color eggs this year?

  2. Jimmy, it's so great to hear that everything is going well and that your incisions are healing. Way to go, buddy!

And it was also great to see that you had posted because you've been very missed in blogland!

I agree, people are free to choose the manner in which they celebrated Easter, but at the same time I see nothing wrong in adding a bit of fun and joy as well.

"I know my eyes lit up when I saw my Easter basket this morning."

    Mine too!

Happy Easter to you, Cindy, and your family!

And no, I didn't color eggs this year, however, I did eat a few Cadbury chocolate eggs and some jelly beans. Yummy!

    1. I really believe that it is key to add a bit of fun to at least keep the kids attention, lessons like Easter will be remembered better if they are looked forward to, and if it takes a few colored eggs then it is a win/win in my opinion.

People have a right to celebrate holidays in the manner of their choosing, I just enjoy seeing families having fun while doing so.

No colored eggs for us this year either Buddy, but I can say there was chocolate involved.

  3. Easter Sunday is such a joyous celebration of our faith. And who doesn't love a little chocolate?

I'm glad you came back to let us know how you are. I think of you often, Jimmy! And yes, Middle Child colored eggs this year, as always. She can't break tradition.

    1. Hi Bijoux, I don't see a problem with a little chocolate being included in the celebration either, Cindy did boil a bunch of eggs but since we had no little ones around the coloring got skipped.

  4. What a delight to see your post this morning and I am SO pleased to hear that everything went well for you with the by-pass. Maybe now you and Cindy can settle to a bit of calm in your lives. No eggs for me this year but I had the biggest box of chocolates I ever saw. Hubby spoils me, you know, although I am sharing the chocs. Keep up the good work, Jimmy, it is so good to see you on your blog again and to know how things are with you.

  5. Glad to see you pop up in blog land! I agree with you, we absolutely can have both.

LOL - I boiled some eggs and then forgot to color them, too. But a chocolate bunny was an absolute must!

    1. Good to see you also my friend, I suppose it could have been worse as far as the eggs go, we could have colored them and had forgotten to boil them Ha Ha

  6. Hope you are recovering well from your surgery.

I agree, as far as Easter is concerned.

But Christmas needs a change. As you probably know, the Bible does not say what time of year Jesus was born. And most historians place the time of his birth most likely in June.

I think it would be a good idea for Christmas to be moved to June, to be observed purely as a Christian holy-day. The December 25 holiday could then be changed to some kind of winterfest or something.

The reason for this is that it has become almost impossible for Christians to "keep Christ in Christmas" anymore, due to its overwhelming commercialism.

  7. Due to some people who think this is the place to share links selling everything from nail polish to colon cleansers I am blocking future comments on this post.

I know that you have a right to advertise your products but shame on you for crowding personal blogs with your worthless ways.
