This is personal

We saw the news last night that there was a shooting in the town we had moved from. A young man who was suspended from school walked into Clovis Carver Public Library and started shooting, a 16 year old kid for Gods sake.

Two dead and four airlifted to Lubbock, Texas in unknown condition. The sad thing is we hear stuff like this on the news all the time, and we get numb to it because even though it is a terrible situation, it is never anyone you know, so we feel bad and say it's a shame.

Well folks we got calls a little later and the two who were killed are both people we know, both wonderful women who we have known for years.

Sorry it's not a happy post, but I am numb just not in the same way as when we normally hear stories like this.

This is personal and I really don't know how I feel.

We have to get a handle on this. If you get mad about something what are you gaining by taking it out on others, I know for a fact Wanda and Krissie didn't deserve this nor did the four who were wounded, I am so scared to learn the names of these people because we still don't know who they are.

People we are getting crazy, this has got to stop, too many people are being killed, killing someone is not the same as getting into a fistfight, when someone dies it is forever... poof, gone, not coming back, you can't say sorry and make it better.

I wish I had an answer but all I know to do is to show love and compassion for at least one person today, let someone you know that you love them, and do your best to not lash out in anger for any reason.

This is personal folks, we have to stop it...Now.

  1. My heart goes out to you and the families of those who were shot. This story got lost in the hurricane coverage, I think.

  2. Oh no...I am so very sorry to hear this terrible news and you are quite right...the only way to stop this is one person at a time. "Let there be peace on eart, and let it begin with me". Thanks for the reminder Jimmy and my thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those innocent women.

  3. I am so very sorry for the personal loss you have experienced. You are right, too often these events are so remote and sadly so often that we get immune to the real pain. Don't know how but we need to stop the anger. Prayers to you and the families involved.

  4. Oh Jimmy, I'm so sorry. 16-year-old kid at a public library... so sad on several levels. Thoughts and prayers to you and others who knew and loved Wanda and Krissie.

  6. Kids are often treated so unfairly by society, older folks, and their peers and years of that makes them go nuts. It's a shame

  7. I am so sorry to hear this, Jimmy. My heart goes out to you, your wife, and the families of those who were killed and hurt. And that kid's life is now ruined forever. And guns will continue to be sold to sick people, to not be locked up by parents, and on and on.

  8. I read about this. I'm so terribly sorry the women were people you knew. I've thought about this collateral damage cause by these killers. Everyone is so careful what they say now, surely at least one of the unstable people showed signs of being on the edge, but others were afraid to say something.
    I don't know if I'm making sense.

  9. I'm so sorry to hear this. Gun law in the UK is very different from the States. What has always worried me is that people with mental health issues in the States seem to be able to get hold of a gun far too easily.

  10. I am so sorry t hear this, Jimmy. I haven't seen the news today. It makes me so angry that this kid got ahold of a gun to begin with! Nothing ever changes. . .

  13. Violence is on the rise because people are losing faith in our institutions. Young people no longer believe in the American dream, and they don't frequent churches or hold their families close. It's really sad.

  14. I'm so sorry for the tragedy that hit a town you formerly lived in. Both of the victims looked like such wonderful women, full of life and devotion for their work. I'm sure they will always be missed by their family and their community.

Senseless violence. I can't wrap my mind around it sometimes. (Actually I can but its a theological thing and I don't want to get all preachy here). Those who have a true faith and pray need to pray for peace and revival. All of us could just simply love others like we love ourselves and treat them like that too. The world would be kinder. Til then, sadly stories like this will continue to be reported and lived out.

  15. Sad news for you. I wish I knew the answer to it all. Here in the UK - where guns are supposed to be banned, killers (kids) have resorted to using knives as well as guns. What the hell drives a 16 year old to kill? I fear for the future of our countries now we are breeding such riff-raff.

  16. I know a lot of Americans won't agree with me, but this seems like an excellent reason to do something about changing the gun laws.

  17. I used to live in Abilene, so I'm familiar with Lubbock. I am so very sorry that this happened, and when it's someone you know, there is a feeling of helplessness in addition to the sadness. I agree with you, and don't understand the anger that would cause a person to hurt someone else. Kindness is free. Hugs...

  18. When I read about this I said not again. It is hard to comprehend, so senseless and to know those ladies who were killed, I am so sorry Jimmy. I am sad for what their families are going through right now. I hope those other people make it through okay. I'm praying for them.

  19. Thank you everybody, this has been hard especially for Cindy, both of these women were close to our family. From what I have been told the City of Clovis, NM is picking up the tab for all medical and funeral expenses for all of the victims, I think this is very kind and will help them a lot.

Your kind words and understanding I appreciate more than you know, Thank you for letting me tell you about this situation, I have a feeling that most of you never would have heard about it otherwise.

  20. I'm so sorry to hear this. How terrible, and so sad.
You just never know these days, and it sucks! It's like you always have to be on guard now.

  21. I am so sorry for your loss. You are right, this is personal. It makes you sadder and angrier than if it was just another report about another shooting in the news. But something needs to be done - but what?
