This months Words for Wednesday is being hosted by our good friend River over at Drifting through life, pop over and give her a visit. If you decide to join in all you have to do is write up anything that you want using this weeks words, it's a lot of fun and there are a lot of good stories that come from these words. If you choose to join in simply let River know so we can all read your story.
This week's words are:
exterior, madwoman, mountain lake, twitched, flicker, desk
and/or:
prediction, approach, bacteria, vaults, plane, white lilac
It's not that difficult
I came to the conclusion that it has looked exactly the same since...well for a long time. I decided that it was time for an update, just an EXTERIOR update because all the stuff on the inside gets regular updates already.
My APPROACH to begin with was to do something simple and not necessarily change the whole design, but I soon found that I was continuing to drift back to the same look and color that I have had since 2005.
I sat down at my DESK and opened the VAULTS containing the millions of images that I have taken over the years, my PREDICTION was that one of these images would hold the answer that I was looking for.
There were the ones looking out of the PLANE window, I actually worked hours with those trying to make something work, then there were the ones of me fishing up at that little MOUNTAIN LAKE, a lot of you will remember those. Fulmore Lake was nice but no matter how hard I tried there was nothing that looked just right to me, the greens I tried for the background just didn't work, no matter what I did there was nothing that didn't look like some sort of BACTERIA growing in the background, so now green was out.
This really shouldn't be that hard! It's easy to do Jimmy! Change can be good, my left eye TWITCHED and I reached up to wipe a tear away as I began to look through other templates and designs, changing the look of my blog shouldn't be that difficult. Simply adding an image to the top is one thing, but changing everything all at once randomly made it look like I had unleashed a MADWOMAN onto my blog.
A FLICKER of hope came as I took a deep breath and made a simple design change, it was one that I liked and so I started at the top changing the colors, fonts, widths and such, one by one I made the changes and suddenly there it was. I still had trouble with the header image and rather than a picture of Dixie digging under our WHITE LILAC bush or of the mountains behind the house, I settled on one of Cindy that I took at the race a couple years ago when they let us sign our names on the wall, then to the sharpie marker in her hand I positioned the title of my blog.
Now I'm happy, see it wasn't that hard changing the look of my blog. What do you think?
Do you have a hard time changing things around on your blog, like the colors and design?

You did well with River's challenging words and then used our story to issue a challenge of your own. I am always wanting to change the design of my blog page. Great story Jimmy, as usual. My story is up also this morning.
ReplyDeleteThank you Annie, I stopped by and read your story earlier, nicely done my friend.
DeleteThe blog looks great and you used the words beautifully....great combo. Now come over and update mine please and thank you.
ReplyDeleteDelores, I'm afraid that if I tried to update your blog then it may confuse everyone else into thinking that yours is mine lol.
DeleteGreat use of the challenge words, Jimmy. I don't even remember what your old blog looked like but for a minute I thought I landed on someone else's. Changing our blog's look IS hard. I've had the same look for six years and I'm afraid to make changes for fear I'll end up deleting the whole thing.
ReplyDeleteJean, with you first thinking that you landed on someone else's page tells me that I successfully changed the look, Thank you.
DeleteMaking changes on your blog shouldn't get you into the position of deleting it, when you go into themes and customize nothing is applied to your blog unless you select the apply to blog button, it's fun to play around with because it shows you the changes as you go but doesn't actually change anything until you are ready.
I haven't changed mine in over a year now
ReplyDeleteIt is really easy to just leave it alone, especially when you are comfortable with the look.
DeleteI always enjoy your stories. You do them ever so well. I love your new look too. I'm sure Cindy is happy about it too.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't changed mine in years either, but I did last week. Change is good.
Have a fabulous day, Jimmy. ☺
Sandee I really like the way your blog turned out, the rotating header images is an impressive feature that works really well for your blog too.
DeleteCindy did give me the thumbs up for the changes to mine so it was a win/win here.
I like it very much, and also have trouble deciding on a photo or theme for my other blog. I try to change it seasonally.
ReplyDeleteCindi, My problem is that I would go in and spend a lot of time making changes then change it right back, no matter what I did it looked the same ha ha.
DeleteMy blog is like my house - things have been in the same place since we moved in almost thirty years ago. Can you tell I don't care for change? ha ha (Fortunately my husband is the same, maybe worse) It will be good, though. if I ever go blind; I'll know exactly where everything is :)
ReplyDeleteI do like your new header - neat trick to have it appear like Cindy is writing the title!
Being able to find your way through the house in the dark is a plus, a lot of people don't like change I think the majority of us are like this, and that's OK too.
DeleteThank you Jenny, I am very pleased with the header image.
You are so brave. I haven't changed a thing since 2009. I have a horror of losing the whole thing. Well done on both counts--really clever header and using all the words.
ReplyDeleteThank you Patti, I believe that fear of losing your whole blog is the main reason a lot of folks don't update the looks of their blogs, I have never heard of this happening so if you wanted to change anything it would be worth looking at, if not then everything is fine your blog looks great.
DeleteRiver's words were made for you this week Jimmie. Each one blended in just right. And what a lovely sharp fresh look you gave your blog, just right for the new year. Maybe just maybe I'll give it a go as well

River does really well picking words for us, it is amazing the different directions we all go with them. Thank you Cathy I am happy with the results.
DeleteWow! Great stuff .
ReplyDeleteThank you Sir, I am happy to have you join us today, please come back anytime.
DeleteI like your new blog look, I noticed it a couple of posts ago and now it's become a way to use the Wednesday words. Very clever of you Jimmy :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much River, and Thank you for providing the words this month.
DeleteThat worked out well. And your blog looks great. I don't find changing mine hard, just tedious. Besides, I really don't like change very much, and I'm pretty lazy as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you Val, I'm happy with the new look, you are right it is tedious to make a complete change, especially when you are used to your blog looking one particular way.
DeleteI like it, Jimmy. Well done. I changed my blog style a few times in the dim and distant past but don't bother now. I admit that a change is refreshing though.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy that you like it Valerie I am really pleased with the changes.
DeleteIt looks great! I think it's probably time for me to try something new at my place.
ReplyDeleteThank you Bijoux, I look forward to seeing your results, knowing you they will be great.
DeleteYou always do such a great job with the Wednesday Words Jimmy! I'll admit that when it comes to changing certain things, I go through a bit of anxiety, but I'm getting much better at it, I hope. Hugs...RO
ReplyDeleteI appreciate that RO, I think we get comfortable with things being one way and then when something changes it temporarily takes that comfort away. I'm glad you are getting better with it.
DeleteSounds like a traumatic event all right, but the results are really good. That is an awesome header photo! Very creative!
ReplyDeleteThank you Pat, you know that the trauma we suffer designing our blogs is greatly exaggerated but we have to do it anyway. Seriously Thank you I am really pleased with the header image.
